Oh, for sure. Because the FJ Cruiser is totally a Landcruiser and definitely not almost exactly like a 4Runner with a shorter wheel base and crap styling. FJ Cruiser guys will totally have much more inherent insight into how to build that truck, and you absolutely should have posted this thread over there rather than here.

Because after all, you might get a lot of response over there. As opposed to here, where nobody is answering your thread and it wouldn't matter if they did because guys with FJ Cruisers know way more about building classic Landcruisers than a bunch of 4Runner nerds.

That's a really clean example of an FJ40. I almost feel bad hearing that it will be altered.

That's the first reaction I had too. Then again, the rear wheel wells have already been cut.

The 5VZ-FE won't have as much off-idle torque as the original engine, but it definitely has more power higher up the rev-range.

Without the heavy F engine over the front end, traction will be diminished too.

The combination of low-end grunt, and lots of weight on the front end, made those great crawlers.

So I got to talk to the owner. (I sold his Benz toy car to fund this project) he want this LC for a camping, farm road, mud truck. It's not going to used in sand, rock. Just what ever we have around Missouri. Super slick snot mud and snow.

So I think the 3.4 with manual. Original x case then 80 series axles are some great recommendations. But we will see how things come together.

yeah, the motor and everything is pulled out of the FJ, the tacoma engine is in the process of coming out.

Sorry for the slow response; hadn't been back to this thread in a while. Anyway, i was just trying to provide an input to the OP, but this Kidvermicious response was a bit odd and brings up a question; is there some intense rivalry between FJ & T4R i'm not aware of...? like i said my last vehicle was an FJ, spent some time over on their forum and they seem pretty friendly to the T4R crowd. Anyway, I definitely don't agree with the comment "crap styling"; part of the appeal of both the cruiser and the FJ40 is they're unique and don't look like every other generic-mobile on the road.
I look forward to seeing this FJ40 come together...

2" lift put 235/85/R16 tires on it, put a stock looking front bumper on it that can hold a winch, get the drivetrain from an LC70 (turbo diesel 5 speed) and put it all together.

Things are going great on the FJ40 build, engine, transmission, xcase are all sitting on the frame. Leaf springs are all tacked in place waiting on parts for final weld.




EDIT: the end of the day today we got the frame box kit welded in.

Honestly im a little sad that a FJ40 in such perfect condition is being altered. That thing is amazing, i would kill for it. If i were the owner with that much $$$ id leave as is and buy a clunker and rebuild that from scratch to my specifications. But that's just my opinion. Anyway im sure that OP will keep it classy
