Awesome. Yeah the color output isn't as yellow as I was hoping for, not from an appearance standpoint, but I think that the effectiveness of the light output would be better in adverse conditions with a yellower color. That being said, they do provide a good amount of low light and light to the sides of the road, much more so than the stock bulbs. So for that, I like them! Hopefully they work just as well for you!

I installed them this last Saturday and must say I've enjoyed them so far. We had a good bit of rain and fog since then and I must say they worked really well. I can't comment on snow though, since it basically never snows in Louisiana.
Yes, they definitely throw out a very wide beam of light. I was impressed.
I'm glad to hear they are working well for you. I've read many times the yellow light cuts through the rain and fog very well. I wanted something like this for my Subaru a few years back but could never find anything like it.

Another note of thanks for your awesome thread. I'm inspired to see what is possible and how much fun you can have even in stock suspension (I know a lift is in the works for you). I'm especially interested in the tire reports and seeing what you will do for wiring and mounting a ham radio/antenna. Like you, I'm a fan of IPAs and GaiaGPS, the best GPS product for iPhone, I think.
This is my first post on the forum. Last week I got my 2016 TE with KDSS, also in MGM color. I could not get Premium, though, since that comes with a moonroof. I'm a tall driver (6'4") so I treasure every millimeter of headroom. But I also like my leather/heated seats. So my truck is getting those added now--Katzkin on all seats and heated on front seats. Also got some Weathertech liners.
I suppose next should be the tires or radio mount. Plus the recovery gear you have mentioned. My main goal is to reach trailheads here in Colorado we could not get to in the Sienna.

Thanks man, I try to put things up on my build for those exact reasons. To show the things that I do to and with my 4Runner in all of it's past current and future versions! Yeah the lift will happen at some point, but the budget isn't huge so until then, I will use the stock suspension to it's abilities and know when to call it quits.
The premium is great, but you'll love yours regardless, just wait... Especially if you hang out on here, prepare your mind and wallet for a mod-overload! Ha! You'll make it 'yours' pretty quickly, especially if you're looking to add leather, and some gadget mounts.
I would highly recommend a good set of tires. They're what get you to, from, and around the trails. Without them, you have a pretty cool stereo, with some comfy seats. A stock 4Runner with a good set of tires will get you around to many places, and is (from my experience) a very capable rig. What tires are you looking at so far?

Yes, the yellow has a better penetrating power than a higher temperature light. A lot of guys will use a laminex film to get the yellow tinted fogs versus replacing the bulbs. But I like how these keep the clear lenses.

Glad to help with the creative process of your build! Just trying to pass on information, and my current beer trends! I get information from this forum and what other members have done, so I figure it's my duty to add to the collective T4R knowledge bank and help others if I can.
Absolutely, I have been itching to get to the Eastern Sierras for months now. I'll let you know if and when that happens! Always like to meet up with other members.

Big Sur Coast, CA
This last weekend, my girlfriend the dog and I took a drive down the central coast of California to meet up with my sister and her boyfriend for some dispersed camping in the Los Padres National Forest, south of Big Sur.
Always a favorite part of the trip
Packed and fueled
Drove south to Old Coast Road, on the north side of the iconic Bixby Bridge (photo is from the road, but I took it a few months back)
Continuing on, the road winds through the redwoods, along a few creeks, up into the chaparral environment on the high grassy plains, then back down to Highway 1 at Andrew Molera State Beach.
We then met up with the other party and headed down the coast, and up the hill towards our camping site for the night
Arriving at the camp site, we found a good spot and set up camp
I usually focus on the beer, but the view from the chair was too good...
Sunset wasn't bad either
Scouted our camping site for the next trip in the morning
Headed back down the hill, and back home. It was a short, but really awesome little trip. On the way down, I swapped seats and gave an "offroad 101" course to the girlfriend. We went over navigating washboards/ruts/rain channels, speed control, and how to engage the 4wd system. It's really fun knowing that she's up for learning to drive the 4Runner off road.

Hey Max,
Now that I've let folks know that I'm replacing the Outback with a new 4Runner, I wanted to thank you for this build thread. Lots of good info here, and the reason why there's a set of Xenon Depot HID low beams in my pile of parts waiting for my 4Runner to arrive!

My girlfriend is looking into a Subaru Outback, like you had. I think that they go well hand in hand. I look forward to seeing your parts on the truck and not in the pile :becky:

We're another family with 4runner/Outback coupling! They go together like PB&J. Can't go wrong with the Outback, I have a 2012 2.5i Premium and it used to make it back and forth to Tahoe all the time from the bay area no issues (its even been x-country twice). The 3.6 is a sweet engine though if fuel economy isn't an issue! My one piece of advice if she goes to test drive the Subaru's is decide whether or not you want to deal with the fuel economy of the V6 before hand. If you test drive both you'll never get the 4 cylinder. Its kind of like all of the talk of the people on here who have had 4th gen V8's before the V6. Lucky for me I never drove the 3.6L until after I bought it and that was when gas was $4.50 a gallon in Cali, so I was still ok with the 2.5.
