Nice trip report. You prove the capability of our vehicles with just some good tires, a set of sliders and, as you said, a little confidence.

Exactly, Irish cream is the way to go. The taste is on point, it doesn't spoil, and the ABV is low enough to not make me feel bad about adding it to my coffee at 6am :high5:

Thanks, yeah you forgot to mention the willingness to bash the skid plate, and remove some paint on the rear bumper... Other than that, extremely capable haha

Are the rear points, Recovery or tie down points for flatbed trailering? There's a difference I think... Great trip! by the way... My wife just got her PhD last month so hang in there.... They return to being normal humans after its over.

I think the recovery point question has been covered.

The finish line is near! It will be fun with her (hopefully) having more weekend time to join me on trips. If not, and she is busy, I'll just keep going :thumb3:

I live in bay area as well, burlingame. Thoroughly enjoy reading through your thread, and the places you have been!!!! I will def. be following your footsteps. Recently took a Gold Lake trip with a buddy and his GF, my GF came as well.. It was raining most of the time, so the ladies were miserable. The guys on the other hand... took the RZR for an insane muddy ride. Needless to say we spent more time washing the RZR than wheeling!

What GPS app or program are you using?

Looks like you had a great and memorable outing! :hail:

I use Gaia GPS Pro for my travels, and it is fantastic! You can preplan routes using different layers and map bases, and then download them for use when you're out of service range, because that's where the best stuff is... I will be doing a write up of Gaia and other items that I use on my trips coming up soon. So, stay tuned...

I have it but haven't been able to find the best map view for my area and what I need. I was trying to use the USFS Raster maps I think, then found them on the USDA website as PDFs. Tried them and like it but nowhere close to the features and tools of Gaia.

As a fellow ham, I'm curious about how much RF interference you get with the HID kit from XenonDepot. Can you notice a difference in the noise level between your headlights being on and off?

None that I have ever noticed. Although, I can't say I have ever specifically listened for it.

Thanks for showing pictures and what drill bit to use! Helped me a lot. Did you use the relay harness? I didn't end up using it.
For mounting the ballast i pulled back the side moldings where the hood lays on top of the foam and there's a perfect little "nest's" in there to mount the ballast to sticky tape or those Velcro pads. All my wires are hidden behind plastics and didn't have to remove any plastic tabs from my rad cover.

You're welcome, glad the documentation can help! I didn't use the relay harness, as they are not needed for the 4R (confirmed with Xenon Depot). Sounds like a clean installation with your ballasts being tucked away for that slick install appearance :whoo:

I was showing this thread to her for one reason or another and she stopped me and shouted out "Look at what stove he's using!" We have that same camp stove that my father-in-law bought new probably 30+ years ago. Haven't seen another one in use. They sell them online as "vintage" haha.

Hey there fellow alumni! My girlfriend and I graduated there in 2013. Small world!

Very cool! I got it as a hand-me-down from my parents too! They used it twice, and then left it in a box! It's a great quality stove, much better than the Primus that you can buy now at REI. I'll hang onto it for a long time to come!

Blue Ridge Overland Gear --- The Attic

This weekend I installed The Attic from Blue Ridge Overland Gear. I wanted to add more storage for light objects (blankets, jackets, sleeping bags, etc.) while using previously unused space.

Installation:
The install was a little tricky, but I eventually figured out my own method the best way to install the attic. I used the left over stock cargo tie downs to replace the standard clothes hooks. Then using a carabiner, I hooked the outer most loop of the attic to the tie down. I installed the front attachment points as BROG had designed them.

Impressions:
The dimensions fit the 4Runner well, and the design allows for a good amount of 'stuff' to be stored up top. Anyone sitting in the backseat over 5'6" - 5'9" could bump into the attic, but for me that's a non-issue as I rarely have people back there for long distances. Removing the attic is fairly simple if cargo needs change, allowing for the best headroom possible. Once I get this thing on the trail for an extended trip, I will update this post.

It has straps that loop around the passenger ceiling grab handles.
