Building myself some new sway bar disconects...lets see how they come out

Here is it fully flexed

Here you can see the hole and thers ~2 inches still in the tube so its not coming out anytime soon

heres the swaybar vs frame. there is still about 1/8in clearence but shortening them down will fix that

and heres the big problem....i still had anoth 3/4 turn left in the steering wheel.

any ideas on how to fix it. its not like its just "close"

I dont think you can fix it. Didn't see that coming either. I havent looked on my truck to find a location but I guess you're just going to have to fab up something so that when you disconnect the swaybar you can connect it to the fab'd up tab to hold the swaybar out of the way.

I used to just zip tie the rear swaybar up and out of the way. It worked great until I used a poor quality zip tie. It broke and I destroyed my rear swaybar when it fell and hung on a rock. But that was just my Toyota self- healing, so to speak.

found a way to resolve this? and what where the dims of rounds you used?

that's what you did right 2 rounds 1 drilled out with a left hand thread and the other drilled out to fit the first round/rod?

i'm looking into making these for mine as well just need to know the material dimensions.

I agree with ChildrenofBodom, the WabFab endlinks are way too much. If you sold pairs I'd by them. They look like a good idea.

Well i think i might have some kind of solution but its going to be a little more complex and it will involve a limit strap for the sway bar link itself ( kinda makes me wonder if its even worth it). With rev1 i used up about 4.25inches of extension. If i make a colapsable version i can only get about 3.5-3.75 inches of travel in the links so i would need a limit strap on the links themselves. With this design im going to get about 85% of the suspension travel and then it will be hindered by the sway bar but it wont take to much more force to get the full last 15% of travel out. I think for me, sense my truck is more of a weekend wheeler and DD it will be a perfect compromise. Now i just gotta build them and see what happens.

i gotta wait till thanksgiving break, gotta have my mom sew up some limit straps for me. but i think im gonna build the next version this weekend.

quick question. Im going to be making limit strap. First place is to use seat belts and stitch it up to the right length. But just thought about maybe using steel cable. that would be really easy for me to make, i cant really sew. just afraid it would look like a hack job haha

Aren't limit straps kinda defeating the purpose of disconnecting the sway bars? I mean you want discos to get more travel, but then if you're gonna limit the travel...

I agree.
Can't you just shorten them, and use them with them separated? And when you want your sway bars back you just slide them together and pop the pin in?

yeah it i know, the straps are there so the links dont pop apart when disconected. It needs ~4in +-.25in of travel to get full flex on the front. Im going to have to limit it to ~3.5-3.75 in of travel. So it will be fully disconnected till the last .5in of the sway bar. then the sway bar will be active again, but its wont do very much because it does not take much force to twist the bar that little.

Zip ties or Velcro strap like the real discos use? Just an idea...limit strap sounds interesting though...can't wait to see what you come up with...you're a pioneer!
