Wanted to share this little project I did. Just bought my 2000 runner and wanted to have my garage door opener built in. I rewired the button with a $4 switch from Radio Shack. Placed the button in the false plate just below the aftermarket radio. Easy to do with some simple soldering if anyone is interested in this. Here is the original circuit board. I removed the original switch and wired in the new momentary switch from Radio Shack: Red Button SPST Pushbutton Switch : Pushbutton Switches | RadioShack.com

That's pretty neat. I wouldn't doing something similar to this myself. I think I would want it someone a little more hidden or subtle though.

Just FYI for those who have 99 and newer, the roof console/sunglasses holder was designed to have a garage door opener in it. There is the velcro used to attach it and the little button things with adjustable lengths. I can understand why a button is better though for security reasons.
I thought about hiding it and also using the black button but I keep it garaged and not to worried about security of it. Plus I like looking at buttons and switches. James Bond style.
