Built Right UCA has arrived.

Today the new UCA has arrived. So pumped :)!! Been eyeing and wanting new UCA for a while. Now I have them. They look very nice. I'm disappointed that the UCA has some serious chips in the paint :( don't know why. Probably because ups throws the boxes around.



What is this part for ?

I really don't wanna wait and go through the hassle of sending them back. I think I'll just throw some.clear coat that the chips. Does it annoy me ? Yes because like you said its expensive and should be perfect condition. But life's isn't always fair is it ? I will let them know though.
 
I would make sure everything is there and you know how to assemble it before complaining about some chipped paint.
 
Nice, although it sucks that the powder coat got chipped badly.

I actually just got mine on a couple weeks ago. Called a couple hours ahead to tell them I was driving 100 miles to pick them up. Got there and they took an hour to give me the box of parts. Walked out into the parking lot and checked the box. THEY FORGOT TO GIVE ME THE WASHERS!!!...

I would've been pretty pissed if I drove all the way home to find that out. Also, mine didn't come with the snap rings for the spindle... so if you don't have any either, make sure to save your stockers.

Another thing, they put my stickers on for me apparently and didn't do the best job at it either, so at least you have the option of putting them on nicely yourself.

Lube the uniballs and rotate them around before installing, I did that to mine and they've been pretty silent. :thumb3: Took them offroading immediately and was pleasantly surprised that my front suspension moved more freely.

They locate the uniball further back than stock location so your tires will be closer to fender well... be sure to tell the alignment shop to give you +caster to move them back forward.
 
I don't think I got any snap rings for spindle. Wtf ! That's pretty bad on their part !! They suppose to include it right ? Now I wanna send it back and get new pair or new paint. Shouldn't be paying $575 for demaged product and missing parts.
 
Their quality is top notch. Metal,welding, And fabrication. But their slacking on few things. They are more of a shop.

Everyone who runs their UCA here and on Tacoma have nothing but good things to say.

this is a bit harsh. If OP calls them I think it safe to assume they will take care him.

I just bought bulbs from The Retrofit Source. They shipped the wrong bulbs. It is lame but they are mailing me the correct ones now.

I definitely think that OP should let them know so that they get the feedback. Even if he installs then as is ... still let them know your feedback.

The difference between shit companies and good companies is how they handle their screw ups.

Andrew over at TRS has been great to me - worked with me on a couple issues and never hesitated to send out the parts I needed to get me up and going.

Another vendor, Redline Goods, is a complete joke. They ship me the wrong stuff and want me to pay to ship them back, to Poland, as they needed the incorrect one before they could send me the right one. That didn't fly.

Just send me the item I ordered and everything will be good - shit happens and most people understand that.
 
I know everyone will have their own opinion and I mean no offence to the OP if he feels otherwise, but my thoughts FWIW is if that paint/powder coat chips just by a little bit of rough handling during shipping, then I would not trust them for any kind of wheeling.

What The Retrofit Source did was 1) send me a free return shipping label 2) state they will ship me the correct replacement as soon as my Return package shows as "tracking shipment in progress" in USPS's system.

That seemed fair enough.

I understand your point. But I think simply they didn't provide enough protection in shipping and the ups throwing boxes around doesn't help. Its not a light product either. I'm not gonna say I can't trust them for wheeling. Because people over at Tacoma forums and few members here have nothing but good. I'm just little annoyed about the paint chipped and not snap rings for spindle. I'll call them.and see how they handle this.
 
Sucks about the snap rings, obviously it'd be nice if they sent you some but you could always just buy some for like $3 somewhere. The adapter should be a light press fit and the snap ring is more of a redundant measure, not to mention the slug isn't loaded vertically. Also remember to not use an oil or sticky grease, you want some kind of dry film or graphite otherwise dirt and shit will get sucked into the ball and held there. Hopefully you get it sorted out, I wouldn't be worried about offroading since the welds look fine and and the UCA is a very lightly loaded part to begin with (as evidenced by how flimsy the top of the spindle is).
 
Like you said. Its not that big of a deal about the snap rings. I don't see why these UCA can't handle hardcore off roading. The shop does build custom off road suspensions and I have heard nothing but good things. So I'm not going to bash them on 2 snap rings and paint chips in which they have no real control over. I'll throw some clear coat on the chipped areas and forget it.
 
OP is a reasonable guy. I love supporting smaller outfits because you know your money is going right into someone's pocket. Sucks about the chipping, but it definitely doesn't indicate the offroad prowess of these lol. I would send Built Right a nice email stating the issues with no expectations. Feedback is great for a company and if they're on it, they will make future improvements. Most of the time, they are very thankful.
 
Just spoke with James. Whhos the owner of BL, and he said I got the last set. It would take a week or two for next batch of UCA to arrive and he said he has no problem of sending new ones out for me quote " just want you to be happy " I said I'll sleep on it and call you back Monday. He said he will keep 1 set aside for me till I decided. So they are willing to fix it of hassle free. But like I said, might just keep it and live with it.

I didn't mean to suggest that they were an inferior product, but meant more about rust issues with the paint/powder coat.

I have to say that these seem to know what "customer service" stands for. Sounds like you made an excellent choice.
