Has anyone installed a bull bar on their 4R? It looks like you pull the three bolts at the bumper attachment point.

Okay, I'll bite. I think the bull bars might be useful for deflecting brush, kangaroos or small deer. Otherwise they are pretty much useless and may cause more damage if you hit anything hard, like a rock or tree. An after market steel bumper would be more useful. If you drive through brush it will still leave pin stripes on the sides of the car, regardless of whether you have a bull bar or bumper. :yo:

Yes, there are three bolts on each side (driver and passenger). Easy to locate (nothing to remove), but a pain to get a wrench in there (not sure if it's different for a Limited). If I'm not mistaken, they were 14mm but don't hold me to it.
I absolutely hate how it looks but it's already saved my front end multiple times from NYC street parking so I guess I didn't do too bad. Bumper and trim all still spotless!

check out Southern Style Offroad's 2014+ hybrid bumper with hoop. Has the bull bar look with the added functionality of being able to add winch, lighting, easier to access shackle points without reducing approach angle.

It needs to work with a wench, so it's stronger than a bull bar, which is a cosmetic add-on.

Are you talking about a "push bar", which is the inbred underbite looking thing, or a "brush guard" ("grill guard") which has bars that extend over the headlights?
If the underbite, well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some people like them, some don't. Your rig, your choice.
If the grill guard, run a Google image search for "brush guard damage multiplier", or go here:

Either of the above could help in light parking-lot bumps (parallel parking) and such, but if you hit anything big they really are damage multipliers. In a moderate hit (where the OEM bumper & crush cans would normally take all the impact), a push bar will fold back and destroy your radiator while the grill guard will fold back and destroy everything (lights, radiator, grill, hood, etc.).
Real structural bumpers cost more because they are more. A "lights and looks" contraption will be from $200-$300. You won't get a real bumper for less than 2-3 times that, with really nice ones at 8x or more. They are designed to take the forces from a snatch strap or a winch.
Most wenches I know aren't that strong unless really pissed off.
