Bumper / Winch Coil Advice

So I'm down to getting the ARB front bumper and Smitty x20 winch with synthetic.

I'm currently running 5100 and 880's in the front. I'm trying to save money by not upgrading if I can. Will that be enough or will it be noticeable it can't handle it?

If so, what coils should I go with in the front?

because it saves on weight. way less weight than a steel line.

You can save 25-35# going synthetic depending on size and length of cable of course, and change of fairlead.

If 880 sags too much you could go up a notch on the 5100 for more compression or get 881 coils for more compression.


OME 880X: 365mm in height 500 pound spring rate
Approximate lift height on 4wd double cab: 1.5"
OME 881X: 375mm in height 500 pound spring rate
Approximate lift height on 4wd double cab: 2"
OME 882X: 395mm in height 500 pound spring rate
Approximate lift height on 4wd double cab: 2.75"
OME 883X: 375mm in height 590 pound spring rate
Approximate lift height on 4wd double cab: 2.75" running approx. 150-200 lbs of additional weight up front.

Get the bumper/winch installed and see whether it causes problems... then fix if necessary. You might even be able to just put in a very thin top plate spacer to get back the 1/4-1/2" you might lose in front height.

the above spring info is helpful.

I would find the total weight of bumper and winch and then open the hood and have a couple of friends sit on the front, or a bunch of bags of dog food, or your neighbors wife and see how much sag you get and turn lock to lock to see what happens.

I dont have my ARB yet, but put the winch in the box on the core support and got too much sag in my opinion ( 40k old talls and KYB's) so assume witht he extra weight of the ARB I was gonna sag too much and rub. gonna refresh b4 mounting winch and getting ARB.

SO I have been texting back and forth yesterday with Steve of Sonoran Steel and he said that the tundra/lc/ billie set up will lift about 2.5 inches and handle the weight just fine...He has been at it long enough I believe him

there has been lots of good info in this forum about suspension lifts and springs...I think a lot also comes down to what your read and want

For me Im afraid its like computers or cell phones....Ill get the recommended system and then 3 weeks later something new will come out and people will say.....get that one
