Burnout question

I will be getting new tires this saturday and i wanna have some fun with the stock Michelin tires before they go and i was wondering if i did a burnout with VSC off and all would it wear out my rear brakes? or run the chance of breaking something

Yes, Yes, Yes, Maybe, who knows.

:)

Burnouts have the potential to destroy stuff, of course they do. Those cars you see on TV that do them, those have experienced drivers and special tires. Track Slicks and are on a slick surface that make it easy.

This doesn't mean you can't do, of course you can... but "burning out" for an extended period of time needs 2 things to happen. 1. Your front brakes hold and 2. Your torque is sufficient to break loose the rears.

Both your truck can do, but you are gonna stress the hell out of your front and rears. Your rear brakes will physically be trying to stop you, to grab your rotors and you will be forceabily denying that.

That spells HEAT. Heat everywhere. Your drive train. Your brakes, your tire. Ever seen some idiots tires catch on fire? I have..... it was just hot enough outside, and he was just dumb (and young) to haven't a clue what he was doing... and well, you know tire rubber likes to burn, once it gets hot enough.. right?
I mean, a tire fire just burns.. nothing you can do... and it will melt your car down to the frame.

So. Know that you understand the risks. Enjoy. If your going to do risky behavior (we all have, me included so no judgement) at least do it educated.

Thanks DC i hardly have and tread left anyways wont be to long but thanks for the info

Enjoy. The 2 things that usually go wrong are in the vids I linked. If you are doing a stationary burnout, then it is usually the extreme heat build up. YOu saw 1. a tranny popping, due to the pressure/heat and then what appears to be the fluid catching fire. Plus the jeeps tire catching on fire. That is a real risk.

2. A moving burnout, the figure 8 kinda thing. That one is you lose control. You def. have to be on your game. That truck that went in the ditch was that. Really, really hard to control the vehicle. It is hard to control, since the rears are not losing total traction. 0 traction would mean you go no where...

Black_120, you didn't lock your differential. You'd get 11's on that road instead of 1.

Just make sure you do it in first gear. You don't want your transmission trying to shift while you're RPM's are all over the place.

A quick burnout won't do much, just keep in mind that it wears down far more than just the tires and you should be okay.

Lol. Let me clear it up. I found this video on youtube. I wouldnt dare trash my baby like that.

I locked my rear diff for full power to both sides without any issues climbing serious inclines, thus braking traction on smooth pavement wont hurt a thing. Rear diff lock is must have for real off roader or burnouter.
