Busted Clutch Bracket question

I apparently have fallen victim of the infamous breaking Clutch bracket. Does anyone know if Toyota has a recall on this? I have seen TONS of threads about it, none more recent than 2011. Or are my options only DIY and either new or getting it welded all to heck?

have had my 90 5spd 4runner for about 6 months now and have had the clutch bracket fail on me twice. first time...got one from pick a part. This last time I pulled mine out and had it welded up and braced a little. if it goes again...WIll just swallow my pride and order a brand new one from the factory with the firewall brace. (noticed a hair line crack on my firewall I will have to address next time)
If you have the spare coin... do it right the first time and buy a brand new one.
This is my play toy...So I tend to skimp on repairs :roadkill: lol
I believe this is the part # for a brand new one
55106-35050 - OEM Toyota BRACKET SUB-ASSY, PE

Thats what I have been hearing, if ya got the $$ get a new one...but I don't sadly. And this is my daily driver too...so extra fun! I have most of the left hand side of the interior torn apart and almost have the frigging thing ready to be wrestled out....*sigh* yay!

Thanks for the perpective Jonny!

Isn't it such a pain in the @ss removing that damn thing?
I don't know how people say that can swap them out in an hour...
took me a almost 3 hours my second time around to pull it and replace everything.(working at my own pace though) hahaha

No kidding...I have it about 90% percent done....but a question. When you did yours...when did the bracket actually feel "loose?" I have all the master cylinder nuts and bolts off...both the pins for the break and clutch are out of the way and from what I can see there is only two more bolts to go, and the thing feels like it is still locked in tight. Are there spot welds that I am unaware of?

there shouldn't be any spot welds.
you got the upper bolts right? (not near the fire wall...more towards the steering column area if that makes sense)
also make sure the sensors are unplugged and remove that lower part of the air duct.

I will double check....had to have a Guinness break to bet the blood pressure down a bit.

I don't blame you.
first time I did it, I took wayy too many beer breaks and next thing I knew...My clutch & brake pedals were removed...along with my steering linkage and the cracked bracket was mangled up and bent lol

heheh. im getting ready to set it on fire. I have everything disconnected, the bolt is ready to come out of the clutch pedal, damn near all the sensors/wires are free. and the thing is in there like it is staying. This may sound dumb...but does the break booster/master Cylinder have to be taken completely out? It seems to still have tension in the lower left corner.

you have to break it loose from the brake booster...pull the booster off the firewall a little bit but not all the way

So what the heck are these? The red arrow is pointing to what I think is still keeping the bracket in there. There are two of them.

Done and done with the booster....but it would appear there is still something holding it in there. RE: Red arrow pic....

BACKSIDE 12MM'S IIRC
those are the two nuts holdint the bracket to the backside of the clutch resi. look under the hood and you will see the two nuts to remove from the clutch fluid resi
than your bracket should come off
like mentioned before...gently pull on the brake booster to "back off the threads goin inside the firewall"

Those I believe are for the clutch master..you gotta unbolt it from under the hood

Then the pin holding the rod to the petal needs to come off also

ITS OFF!!! And what a MAJOR fsckin pain! I have NO idea if I can actually get it back together. :) But at least it is off. Considering how awful it was to remove...I think I will just wait a couple of weeks and just get the new and improved one when I got the $$. Thanks millions for the help ya'll!!

Also...everything else on my little 3.Slow is built to take a missile hit...why in the name of Zeus would Toyota use such flimsy metal? :ybrick:

Horrible design IMO.
BUT
ASSUMING the OEM one lasted 260k miles(on my 4unner)... might be worth it to just buy the brand new OEM unit :wow:
I will let you know when mine cracks again in a few months and I finally pony up the $150 bucks for an oem unit lol

Don't sweat the re install. everything will come back to you. worse part was re aligning the bolts holding in the brake and clutch pedal haha

This is probably true...but come on...a little extra metal on the engine side of the firewall and slightly thicker gauge metal on the inside should be a no brainer after the first 500 fail. :) Just sayin'....
