The only reason I would trade out of my 2021 would be if electrics dominated the market and fossil fuel prices sky rocketed.

I just traded in my 19 for 22. If the 23 proves out after a while, then I'll trade it, values will always be good. I like the fact these are very proven. Not many cars have the track record of these.

I drive 2011 4R, had it since new, 11 years next month.
I had 96 4R before for many years. Love them.

The 2011 is getting old, I could drive it few more years, but I'll have to replace it within 2-3 years. In Ontario, Canada they rust a lot and I have to have reliable vehicle for my long trips into the outdoors.

The question is buy now or wait until redesign which is expected for 2023?

I am quite happy with the current one, the only reason to wait would be better fuel consumption, reportedly they plan 2.4 Turbo and 7-8 speed transmission.
OTOH, most things don't get better with redesigns these days. Some people don't like turbo engines. I plan to keep it for 10 or more years.

What do you think?
BTW, 2 of my neighbors had their 4r and highlander stolen TWICE within the last 2 years. Both had smart keys.
I am thinking of ordering Trail (which I understand has a regular key) for that reason only.

2022 Trail 4Runner - first impressions

I waited 9 month and in May got my Trail
Got $500 off MSRP (Toronto) and am happy.
Traded in my 2011 SR5

I sold Yakima rack, need to sell the stupid cooler

- Nice to have new version of the trusted truck
- No garage opener WTF?
- No rear bumper sensors, but there's camera
- No power passenger seat WTF?
- Adaptive cruise control WTF? The 2 lane road was curving right and the radar 'noticed' a car in front of me in another lane, it hit the breaks HARD! WTF?
- Tires are total shit, Toyota it's embarrassing to put such shitty tires on 4Runner. Oh, and the monkeys in the dealership inflated tires to 55 PSI!!! WTF!!!
- I am not a fan of 4 wheel drive know, the handle was so much better, only available on TRD off road now, I think.

It's hard for someone who learned to drive w/o nannies to adapt, I am old

Everything else is good.
I placed OBD protector (Sherlock) on the port to deter theft.

Folks may have already said this, but let’s say the new T4R becomes starts to become available late fall of 2023. First, I would never buy a first years production since thee will still be lots of new model issues to work out. As an example, look what’s been going on with the new Tundra…. it’s a great platform, but there sure have been lots of issues to work out the first year. Second, once you’re comfortable with the new model being mostly bug free, there’s going to be a huge pent-up demand, delays and dealers are going to ask for significant market adjustments. So, as I see it, it’s probably two years out from when they are first released to getting one. Which is why I plan to wait to 2025-2026 before upgrading from my 2020.
