Buying a 1995 4Runner

Hey guys, I know you get a lot of these, but I have the opportunity to buy a 1995 4Runner V6 with 134000 miles for $3000. From what my mechanic said, all it needs is new tires and alignment. I've heard a lot about the head gasket problems and I'm wondering if that would be something that should steer me away from this purchase. It would primarily be an occasional driver and would only take it off-load during the weekends.

If it is rust free, which it most likely is in Arizona, I'd go for it. Is there any record of the HG or timing belt being replaced? Tires and alignment are nothing to worry about, but it is a good point to negotiate a lower price.

I just paid $4000 for a 1995 in excellent condition. Because of its age I figure I'll need to spend several thousand over the next year to do things like fix the a/c and exhaust but in the end I'll have a vehicle I really like and depend on.

I picked up my 95 with little rust, and plenty of " trail scars" 3 sets of rims and tires and 173 k on her for 2300
it promptly got 1300 in work and new shoes for another 900

sounds like a decent deal to me use KBB and the tires alingement for fighting points on the price if you can get it for 2500 JUMP all over it
