buying a used 4runner

I always wondered about this but now I'm i the market again so I figured I'd ask. I'm in the market for a 4th gen but the question could apply to any vehicle. I'm in the market for a 4th gen v8 4wd. My question is based on the vehicles I am looking at are all in very good shape and the maintenance is there and the only variability would be mileage. So Basically is it worth paying thousands more to get a vehicle with say 30,000 miles less? The question is general but here are some specifics to help out. I see 3 4runners. Same specs. 1) 142,000 miles asking is 15,999. 2) 119,000 miles asking 17,500. 3) 82,000 miles asking 21,900. I know there's a big difference between 1 and 3 but say between 1 and 2 and between 2 and 3 what would you say? buy the more expensive one just to save two years worth of miles?

You may get a more accurate response if you add what years the 1, 2, and 3 4runners are. I'd be more inclined to buy a newer year with less miles.

My bad I had said all the specs were the same but I should've included that I guess. They are all 2007. All limited v8 4wd. I haven't checked the carfax yet but I know the one with 119k miles has had the timing belt and water pump changed. Maybe the others have but I'm not sure right at this moment. 1 is silver. 2 is is that dark charcoal. 3 is navy blue. I really don't care about the colors though because I'm fine with all three and I'm not paying more for any of those colors. Let me know if I forgot anything else

Wow, I would keep shopping. Last year I paid around $16,500 for a '08 V6 4wd SR5 with 85,000 on it. No way would I pay an extra $5.5k for leather and a V8 on an older model with the same miles (approx.).

Ok I'm definitely not trying to start an argument but what the price is isn't relevant it's if a few thousand more is worth 20-30k miles less. And a v8 4wd has a much higher resale value. So maybe you wouldn't pay more for it but that has nothing to do with them being more expensive

Just to be clear though I'm not saying you're wrong. My 2006 that I sold I paid like 14,500 for. 2006 sr5 v6 4wd mint condition one owner with 78,000 miles and no rust

Folks here crap all over KBB.com values, and indeed it is hard to find 4Runners at this price. That said, they do provide a way to value relative mileage, age and options. Even if you believe KBB prices are 10-20% low you can still get estimates for various mileages and get an idea how much a specific reduction in mileage should be worth.

The one caveat I'd throw in is the timing belt. Lots of sellers try to dump their V8s between 90 and 110K miles without doing the timing belt and "innocently" don't let this impact their selling price. KBB prices nominally back this up (until you realize that non-performance of critical maintenance automatically takes condition down a couple of notches - like from Excellent down to Good).

Exactly. If you watch the market you can see one and guess what kbb would be and know that what you're looking at is $xxxx over what it should be for a clean maintained 4r
