do you have a design already in mind? i bought all the stuff to make my sliders (welder, bender, chop saw, grinder) so now i don't have a choice of buying my front and rear bumpers lol. i need to start thinking about my design. Dirtco is definitely an inspiration haha

anyone know how much i should get? i was going to get about 20-24 ft of 1 ft wide 1/8" plate . . .
or just the biggest two sheets i can fit in the back of the 4runner with all the seats down . ..
PS- ill be working with a guy that is really good at welding and went to school for it, so not only am i getting some armor, im getting some education too. AND he has top notch Miller Equipment including that awesome Miller Plasma that i could never afford.

was your rear bumper not an issue with the LC coils? as far as weight goes?

Up until you said you had a plasma available i was going to recommend just getting the 1 foot wide lengths. With a plasma available it should be cheaper to get larger sheets of steel. If you have a roof rack, id stick it up there. Steel is usually coated in a anti-rusting agent that can make the interior of your truck very very dirty and hard to clean.

i throw all sorts of nasty **** back there, i havent used it for any passenger but my dog in about 2 years. so its pretty dirty anyways .. ive had a full gallon of outboard motor oil spill, used gear oil, jeezz what else, beer bottles flying around and breaking... i dont really trust my roof rack anyways. it was ripped off by a tree when i was wheeling last year and is a little loose on the mounts.

ill try to take as many as possible. i may just put the go pro on time lapse for every 30 secs and set the cam up in the garage the entire day while we work. that should be a coooooool little time lapse vid. and my new video card is coming in, so yall prepare for some awesome videos, been doing lots of work with adobe premiere pro lately. extremely powerful software.

I used premiere pro in highschool. We were lucky enough to have 4 licences for it. Definitely very powerful, and funny enough, most user friend video editing software ive ever used.

If you are doing recovery points and/or a tow hitch, you will either need to reinforce the 1/8" sheet or go thicker.
It will probably be lighter to run a 2.5"x 2.5"x 1/4" tube behind and mount the hitch and recovery points to it.
Personally I would (and did) just use a tube for the back part and plate the sides.
My back tube is a 2x4x 3/16" I wish I went smaller, like a 2.5"x 2.5"x 1/4" tube (this is receiver tube size). Every inch of departure angle makes a big difference.
The other great thing about a tube is that WHEN you drag it, it won't peal like the edge of plate.

I have the 9 wrap coils, so the bumper settled them down nicely to match the front. If yours settle too much, you might wanna trade yours for a set of 9's

yes, but . . . i talked to steve @ sonoran in regards to the spring rate comparison between all of the various LC coils we can use on our rigs. apparently, the ones that he sells have the highest spring rate, so while they may sit "lower" than the 9's at a standstill, they shouldnt sag as much from weight. so im still thinking what i should do. i really have been thinking about the "stock replacement" OME coil for the front of the FZJ80. this will give me about the same height as what I have (i think so at least), but also give me more load capacity. im trying to stay away from the 4runner OME springs just because i dont dig rear sag AT ALL.
Anyways, picking up a 4'x8' sheet of 1/8" a la manana and heading to the garage.

If it were me, I would just leave your coils be until the bumper is finished. If that's what they say at SS, I would take their word for it. If it does sag a little, just swap them with something else. If you arn't gonna be adding a tire carrier or anything else extra, I doubt it will be that big of a deal when it comes to sagging.
And I totally dig the idea of the GoPro time lapse, that would be the coolest thing ever.
