Buying Sliders, Need advice

look at trail gear, they dont list a 3rd gen runner slider, but the 68" i believe are the ones you want. dirt cheap and do just as good as a $400 set.

As soon as I stop hemorrhaging money in every other aspect of my life, I'd like to get a set of 4x Innovations sliders, they seem to have the best all around deal from my searching.

just so you guys know what you are buying, that "HREW" tubing is not very strong, and will not hold up to rocks or other impacts. and the down side of that is that they could get bent up into the body and cause damage to the truck or even worse get bent into the doors and prevent them from opening effectively trapping you inside the truck -ask me how i know... DOM is much stronger than HREW
the trail gear ones are DOM tubing and its the 67" sliders you want

Yeah I saw that too, but DOM on the 4x innovations is only $50 more and I like the look of the 4x innovations more...not really into cut out flames. Plus, it seems like the 4x innovations comes with more hardware than the T.G. So, it's about $18 dollars more...I haven't figured shipping yet.

Kid, you could not be further from the truth, HREW is a great product for bumpers and sliders. I only build cages out of DOM but thats a very different application. Your door getting damaged is the result of poor design, not a weaker material. HREW is plenty strong and holds up to impact just fine, not as well as DOM but the same can be said about DOM compared to Chrome-Moly. Point is, dont be afraid to buy and build with HREW, there are ALWAYS more expensive options, doesnt make them the better choice for your application though.
Anyone that has an open mind and doesnt simply regurgitate what they have heard others say, needs to read and understand this article and discussion better.

Forgot to mention that Savage Offroad makes three different style of sliders that look and perform great. He also offers them in HREW or DOM steel.

I saw this on their site, but since I'm an English teacher this sentence says to me that the DOM is American made but not necessarily the HREW, time to send an email.

Chinese DOM (Pretty much all the company yall listed) < Amercian HREW (BAMF, Marlin ect).

OP if you decide to get sliders like 4X or TG i would strongly suggest you get the gusset and mounting kit either from ruff stuff or BAMF. i have TG sliders and i went with the ruff stuff mounting plates and gusset kit and it made those sliders way stronger against slamming down on rocks. i've seen people that weld on their sliders with the supplied gusset kit and their sliders have a lit of movement when wheeling on rocks. just to put things in perspective.

Yes, he emailed me back very quickly and verified that he uses American steel. Very nice and professional, just place my order.
I was looking into upgrading the gussets but couldn't find what you posted above, t4r4life. Post a link for suggestions?
Honestly, I'm sure the weld shop around here probably has a few pieces of plate that they could cut into a triangle....

Too late now but I have a 4XInnovations plate bumper and Stubbs Welding Sliders. I would have recommended him after having experience with both companies.

maybe you need to look into that again... HREW will fail and buckle and split open, DOM will just dent -bend if hit hard enough, but that would be where the HREW would just split open and fail. when i bent my slider up i dropped the entire weight of my truck(5100lbs empty) into/into a rock from about 2 1/2', the slider did its job, if i had had HREW i would have a crushed door and destroyed slider. with the DOM tube i was able to simply put it on the frame rack and with just over 25,000psi was able to pull it back down to clear my door.
i would not put HREW(with a few exceptions) on anything you value, the point of sliders is to prevent damage to the vehicle and save you money in repairs... if i was running HREW i would have been not only replacing the slider(cutting off the old and welding new on), but the door and some structural body work to the door frame...

now i will give you that marlins HREW is top notch and if you where to buy from them then i would have no worries but so far no one is buying his stuff here or at least made mention of it.
material for material DOM is hands down stronger than HREW. find good quality specimens of both and test them, i assure you DOM is stronger. -i have been fabricating and working around shops and building custom stuff with metal sense i was in my early teens i have over 17 years of fab experience on everything from race cars to go carts to tractors to military equipment.

I understand DOM is stronger, but HREW isn't some cheap metal. If you can go DOM, then great, but HREW will be sufficient for 99% of the people on this site. Jmoney$$$ wheels the piss out of his 4runner (probably the hardest of the 3rd gens I know) and has HREW 4x sliders. Yes they are dented up, but they have not split and work just as good as the first day. He doesn't have any issues with them bending up.

Exactly, it's all about metal quality, DOM and HREW is just how the tube is pressed and rolled out. a nice set of American steel HREW sliders with its seam facing up and a nice set of mounting plates and gussets will be just as strong a set of DOM sliders. In most cases you will damage your frame before you start bending your sliders
