I just smashed my truck up after hitting standing water, the back went light and like an idiot I lifted off and just spun it straight into the armco. I think I would like another one but that could be months to sort out, if I can even afford it/if insurance covers it. I am just glad I didn't hit anyone else and no-one else was involved. Take care and maybe speak again one day.

I loved that truck, but you are right, I thanks God that no one else was involved, or had to swerve to avoid it. I ran back into the road to kick the headlights, bumper and debris out the way and got told off (nicely) by a lady who stopped.

Haha, thanks mate. Well if you guys can tolerate the irrelevant witterings of a limey...I'm not like the others I can assure you. :biggrin1:

I wrote that post literally after walking into the house after getting in as I just needed to be doing something. I have written an email to the import company to see what prices are like at the moment. So maybe it won't be too long until I get another. I'm just gutted though, I loved everything about that truck and I ordered it when I was struggling mentally with COVID hysteria so it had sentimental value. I will miss it greatly.

I know you loved your T4R and I hope you get another soon.

That being said don't be a stranger just because you don't have a T4R at this time, you're part of this forum's family, like it or not :party: and I hope you keep posting! :cheers:

Sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you are OK and no one was hurt. you've built a great rig and have good incite and knowledge. Good luck.

It's a bit late to ask now, but just in case I get another:

Do you guys use 4WD for torrential rain/standing water situations?

I wonder if I had been in 4WD, and/or had all my tools in the back (weighing it down) it might not have happened.

yes, in torrential/monsoon/hurricane waters i would definitely use 4wd. weight probably would not help, and wouldn't want sacks of hammers airborne. i treat heavy rain like heavy now, avoid if i can, or drive slowly.

I don't but that would help. Never the less sometimes freak accidents are just that.
 
Wow, bummer! Glad you're ok. I think 4wd would've helped to a point (along with good tires). For people who think it's traction invincibility, it likely won't help much. But, for those who understand it's limitations and can drive appropriately for the conditions, yes I believe so. I know when I go play in the snow with my truck, I have to try to get it to spin, and when I do, the traction control corrects very well.

I went to pick up the rest of my personal items and the rear racking/shelving today and saw it properly for the first time since. I have no memory of how the driver's side damage happened but the only injury I had was a slightly sore right knee. End of the road for this truck though.

I don't know why the pic is sideways I've changed and re-uploaded it 3 times now. Never mind.

Yes it was just when the back 'let go' I knew I was stuffed. My last car was a fulltime 4WD Suzuki that seemed decent in the rain, but then I don't remember it aquaplaning.

I think control in the snow is a good analogy for a road with standing water though.

Just keeping up with traffic, around 70mph (Speed limit here). I had no idea it was there, it had been spotting with rain up until that point. I arrived where it had been raining heavily.

All I can say is I wasn't driving particularly differently from any other vehicle I've owned (Front wheel drive and fulltime 4WD), and with it being in 2WD that was probably a very bad mistake.

My fault ultimately, but if I had known it was as risky as it turned out to be I would have been going a lot slower. (And put it in 4WD...)
