So sad, someone posted about the off duty cop and his family and the audio from the call several months ago... and to think that the Lexus they were driving is not much different from the Camry in the test. Probably even the same break system. Simply stepping on the brakes could have saved their lives.
at least Toyota is getting on the ball now,
The Infiniti with the 3 rapid presses of the start button is ingenious though! thats exactly what a panicked driver is gonna try on those things... hitting the button over and over to try and turn it off

This article just confirms what I originally said about this incident when it first surfaced. The predominate factor in this incident appears to be driver error. Especially since the driver was a State Trooper, who one would think would have been trained to respond in an emergency situation much better than what appeared to be the case. Going all the way back to the infamous Audi 'problems', unless the vehicles braking system had a serious mechanical failure or the floor mat had become wedged behind the brake pedal and restricted its movement, there is no logical argument that the vehicle couldn't have been slowed safely using the normal braking system. And, in any event, the driver should have just put the vehicle in neutral to remove engine power from the drivetrain, and stop the vehicle. It would appear that in some cases, people who should know better, panic and lose all common sense in a situation that they are not prepared to handle.

Nice that C&D mentions Toyota will add the throttle cut off when the brakes are applied and they didn't find any issues with the Camry. Usually, C&D doesn't praise Toyotas much.
Though in the stuck gas pedal thread, an individual supposed did repeated stops with the ES350 and the brakes faded after the second or third stop while flooring the gas pedal. This was something the C&D test didn't account for.
I've always like the Infiniti G. Kudos to Nissan for thinking of the panic situations.
