C4 Corvette?

I'm considering getting rid of my Jetta and finally buying a car I can have respect for. For a while I was considering an 02-03 WRX but I can't find one for a decent price without over a 100k miles.

Today on my way home from work I saw a mid 90's C4 and it just made me want one. I got home and found this particular one with 75k miles and going for around $10k. Its the exact kind I was thinking of. Any of you ever owned a Corvette or think its a good/bad idea?

Make sure you keep the waterpump fresh...when they start leaking it makes a mess. Some genius put the distributer underneath it. Fun cars though.
 
If you're not over 50 and not balding -- do not get one, because you won't fit usual crowd that buys Corvettes.

nope I'm 23 and with a full head of hair. Much more of a reason to get one I think.
 
My neighbor has one and that thing seems like a bitch to work on. The engine bay is so cramped, he had a really hard time even changing the plugs. But then again, to each his own. If you like it, buy it and have fun.
 
Only thing I have against a Vette is the insurance costs. Damn thing will cost more to insure, ESPECIALLY being under 25, than your monthly payments on a 4Runner!!!!

I would never consider a vette under the age of 25 just for that reason alone. Even still insurance will be very high after that age.

As for the car, yeah, just watch out for water pumps. Maintenance is a bit of a bitch but it comes with the territory. They werent meant to be comfortable or roomy or user friendly, they were meant to do two things only, look bad ass, and go fast.

As they say, "Wrap your ass in fiberglass" :p

If I didnt have kids I'd get a mid 90's vette too and fix it up some. But a vette right now would be the absolute most impractical thing I could ever buy. I'd almost rather have an NSX though if I was going to buy a vehicle like that. Transmissions were never great in the NSX, but they are sexier than a vette anyday I think......
 
Buyer beware,those older Vettes have alot of ticky tac issues with them and reliability is subpar and can be pricey to repair.

My mom owned three C4s and they were pretty much a big headache after 50,000 miles.

Still a cool car tho' if you've got the patience.
 

Yeah, you could probably find a deal on a used C4 Corvette......but remember how much it costs to maintain one. Tires are not exactly cheap, and other parts are sort of pricey. But then again, it is less expensive than other cars in the same league (Porsche, BMW, etc.) and a Chevy dealer can still perform any task you might need done to it.

Maybe you ought to consider a newer used Mustang GT, or maybe a used Mustang Cobra. Some of them are nearly equal to Corvettes in performance and you still have a back seat. LOL! Not that a Mustang is a bargain in the insurance department, but it won't hurt you as much as a 'Vette......particularly since you are still a youngster in their eyes.
 
For around 10K, I would look into LS1 camaro's and T/A's. Plenty available, less headaches than the C4, more power potential (very robust and reliable engines those LS1's are), but the handling won't be as good. Just my .02.
