C4 Rear Swing Alignment Issue

Got my C4 rear dual swing bumper/tire carrier installed this winter and due to a VERY active ski season and an unexpected problem with one of my pups, haven't gotten around to messing with this much. Bottomline, my tire carrier arm sits about 3/16" low and requires me to literally lift the entire arm to get the latch to engage the opening. My install shop took it all apart and reinstalled it to verify they didn't mess anything up, and suggested I contact C4 about it. Picts sent, but no help so far.

Anyone else have this issue? I have 2 bad shoulders, with 1 ready for a total replacement and the other scheduled for major repair, so lifting the swing arm with my spare SUCKS (and broke the handle/latch mechanism - roll pin fell out and now held in place with gaffers tape)! Between this, the general lack of engine power in the mountains, and the constant creaks from the rear bumper and suspension - has me wondering if my T4R is better suited for trail use and not a DD with 4 hrs drives back and forth from Tahoe 2 times a month...

Help or suggestions appreciated.

I can't speak to the carrier arm issue, but that same handle/latch is on a swing arm that I have from a different vendor. The pin also fell out of mine, so that one isn't just a C4 issue. I sent them an email, and they shipped out a replacement that was a simple swap. I do have a C4 front bumper, and they were very helpful via email with some questions I had. I bet they would have some answers for you if you tell them what your issues are. Good luck.

I engaged C4 about 2-3 weeks ago, asking for a shim kit or other suggestions. So far....crickets
 
Wow, C4 is on a roll! First people are having issues with their high clearance front bumper chop....now recently admitted to a flawed ladder design (currently on version three), where the top plate gauges the exterior paint and isn’t secure...now this! Looks like to me, their rush to get products out on the market to satisfy this hole weekendlander craze, is impacting their QC.

That stinks. I think I just used the email address provided on their website, but there's always Instagram or this forum as other ways to reach out. I hope you get a good solution.
 
Cut off the loop plate welded to the bumper and weld it 1/4" lower. Or use a die grinder to trim the inside and angle grinder to trim the top.

That's the two options I see.

Agreed. i've been in contact with c4 for their high clearance add on for months. they keep putting me off saying it's coming in about a month and recently i was told it's on the backburner. Kind of wish i went with SSO; they have the products ready to go.

I don’t know, maybe temporarily but if the swingout used to be aligned then something is giving-way. I’d hunt down what’s sagging, my guess is it’s the spindle tabs...

The spindle is double sheared but, from what I can tell, those tabs aren’t fully gusseted, at least not externally. I’d seek out a fab shop to assess... if it is the tabs they may be able to press them back, realigning the swingout, and then add some extra gussets to try and prevent it from occurring again. If that’s what it is. Maybe try opening it up and rocking the swingout to see where there’s play.
 
Reading your first post it sounds like this was a problem from the start. Has it always been aligned wrong?

If so, when they welded the mount to the bumper the alignment would be off causing this issues. Could be a QC issue. That mount is easy to align wrong. The fix would be to cut off the mount and get it welded properly aligned with the latch.

I would have to agree it's a QC issue. The latch tab was off when I picked the truck up with the stock spare on it, and didn't get any worse when I mounted my oversized spare on a much heavier rim. The unit seems stout and well built - just misaligned.

I guess it's off to a fab shop. Didn't realize my fancy bolt on rear bumper had "some cutting, welding, and fabrication required" to get the install correct. :rolleyes:

What high clearance chop issues? C4 hasn’t even released their version yet.
 
Meh...lighten up francis. Maybe it was SSO having issues. The other two things are correct! Are you a C4 shill or something?

I’m sure that C4 will respond here pretty quickly. They’re known for good customer service and outreach, so give them a chance to address the issue with OP.
