CA Emissions

Guys, I'm moving from OH to San Diego. 2008 4.7L. My brother advised me to make sure there aren't any emissions issues with a non-CA vehicle. I think the only mod I've made is that screen in the intake manifold a long time ago...

Any issues likely to arise? Need to make sure I can get it registered in CA before I move so I don't get a nasty surprise.

I believe it meets the emissions requirements for California. My 2006 4Runner does. Check the sticker attached to the underside of your hood.

No issues. Just dont tell the smog tech about the HCF removal. Some techs can be picky about silly stuff like that.

-I just moved out of Cali. Had to smog mine about a year ago and it passed with flying colors at almost 200k miles.

Lived my whole life in southern california, except two years in Cleveland, OH. I was so glad to come back to CA. You are definitely moving in the right direction! As for CA smog: in the past couple of years they changed how they test emissions in newer vehicles ('02 and newer) that have OBDII. It's much faster and easier now -they don't sniff your tailpipe unless you are a pre-02. I believe. They just hook up to your OBD port and run the engine. They are only looking to make sure the computer doesn't show or throw any codes. They will also do a visual inspection -mostly just to make sure that you have your intact exhaust with catalytic converters. If your engine compartment looks stock they are not going to know, check or care that you removed the Hydrocarbon filter as long as it hasn't thrown a code. You won't have any problems. Welcome to CA!
