How often do ppl change these out?? At a certain distance driven or when its summer and everything is filtering through your channels...for instance here we go through lots of smokey days. Fire season kills my allergies. Would it be best to change out often when air conditions are bad "enough"?

I took the lazy option and just set one of the user definable maintenance reminders for every 10k miles... in ~3yrs of owning this 4Runner, it seems to be a good interval for me and what I put it through.
What's a user definable maintenance reminder, and how do you set it?
