Cabin air filter

I replaced my filter after reading this thread (12 months old). It was really dirty!

As a bonus, the slight musty odor from the air vents is gone. From now on, I'll make sure that I change this one at least once every 12 months.

The filter is located behind the glove box. Very clear instructions are provided in the owners manual. Look in the index under "air conditioning filter".

Is this filter standard on the 4Runner?

Is the cabin air filter pretty easy to acces? The reason I ask is I may need to replace it pretty often.

if you look in the owner's manual, it shows how to access the cabin air filter, and with pics also. on the 04 runners its behind the glove box and pretty simple to get to.

It's standard on 03/04. I'm not sure about older 4runners.

The problem with the blower went away so my guess is that it was caused by the dirty filter. Now I need to know where the pcv valve is, if anyone knows where it is and what it looks like, please let me know.

Sorry I would help you with you PCV question, but I have a V6 and it probably wouldn't do you much good for me to tell you.
As an aside, I find it funny when people say PCV valve, kind of redundant, I am not being critical, I do it all the time. It does however sound stupid to say do you have a PCV? Instead of PCV valve, but anyways I digress.

It is not always redundant... In a lot of repair manuals for most manufactures (including the Toyota 03 4Runner's) the PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve.

On the 2UZ-FE, the PCV valve is at the base of the oil filler tube, on the drivers side valve cover just above the No. 1 (most forward) sparkplug.

I was speaking more redundant for the sound of the words, PCV Valve, or ...... Ventilation valve, I always laugh when I hear words that start with the same sound or sound silly and I have to say that there is a certain amount of absurd in ventilation valve.

Anybody find a good online cheap source for these filters?

I bought a second aFe filter for my engine, shipped from Kansas it was only $43. And Anderson wants $34 for a piece of paper towel in the cabin a/c? Haha.

granted you may not like your local dealer, but if you paid $35 for it locally and then go out and pay $43 for the same item online, your not saving money.

or is this a matter of principle that you wont buy from your local dealer?

I'm sure you can find it much cheaper than that. My local stealer was selling for $13, I bought an extra one. If you want it I give to you for cost, say $17 including shipping

Most of the Toyota part search engines either don't recognize cabin air filter or they don't offer it. Partznet came back with no items under their search feature. I should have gotten the part# from Anderson.

The $43 was actually cheap for a re-useable aFe, similar to K&N, filter. My original came with the Borla set-up which had an aFe as stock. It is too humid to clean and appropriately dry right now, so I got a backup.

Not many online people sell Afe, I bought it from Mid-States.

Oh, I thought when you said afe it was the oem one but now I understand that it is an aftermarket brand name.

And, Partznet has a toll free phone number. I don't find alot of things through their parts lookup but they always have everything just email them or call them for a quote.

Thanks for all your help. I have emailed Andy at Auburn to see what he quotes me. My wife says my truck smells like tobacco, and I don't even smoke! So, I figure the filter is dirty with the nations worst polluted air, Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Thrill.

Maybe it is the sulphur?
