cabin temperature adjust won't work .

Hi

I have noticed new issue with my 04 V8

Usually I'm using AUTO mode for the temperature .
Today I went for manual and I set 22 degrees on 3rd level
The air from vents was super hot
No matter what temperature i set was blowing hot
Only on LO starts blowing super cold . Looks like steering won't work. Any ideas ?

I am not sure what you meant by “steering won’t work…
But for the heater issue, I would check connection of the cabin temp sensor, especially if you have recently done any radio or dash work (pulling the dash apart).
Sensor is located to the right of the steering wheel on the driver side… in the area of your right knee as you seating in driver seat;

Woah! That escalated quickly!
 
Sorry for my English I'm from europe .

I meant buttons are working ,temp on the display is changing but the air from the vents is super hot or super cold . I don't think temp sensor is important while using a manual temp mode . Sensors are needed only when climate control is on AUTO mode I guess
 
I hope that I can help.

I had the same issue--extremely hot air from any temeprature above "LO" and LO was extremely cold.

Took it into the dealership. Ends up the whole "control panel" or whatever it is called was bad (the part that actually displays temp, controls, etc). Took them about 4 visits and several other troubleshooting efforts to isolate it to that piece.

Ended up being about $3000 in repairs, but covered under the extended warranty I had purchased.

Hopefully, this can save you money. You can probably find a used one somewhere and maybe even replace it yourself.

It was not a fun experience with both the inability to control cabin temperature nor the process by which they fixed it.

Nope. The inside temperature/humidity is a factor EVEN when you adjust the temperature in manual mode. The climate control will blow out air relative to the outside temperature of your 4Runner. So, if you have it set on 70 when it's 65 outside, it will blow seemingly "cold" air. Likewise, if you set it on 70 when it's 15 outside, it will blow HOT air. Understand? So how cold is it outside when this happened?

Room Temperature Sensor Circuit

Is located under dash on drivers side. Drop the lower dash panel. 3 10mm bolts. Check to see if the Room Temperature Sensor Circuit is plugged in. Also there is an air tube that connect directly below it.

I bought an 03 last Thursday. I had the same problem as OP. I found the above fix in another thread. Dropped the panel and found both the sensor unplugged and the hose/tube not connected. I plugged both back and everything works perfectly.

This could have been caused if anyone was under the dash adjusting or installing any kind of wiring stereo alarm system, etc.

Well right nowe is 2 degrees Celsius and I set 18 degrees on climate control . The air blows from vents is super hot and temperature inside the car is about 24 degrees .

I didn't even take off the panel . Just moved all the cords over there and my climate control works well right now :)

This worked for me. Read about this solution on another thread too. I had this same problem with a recently purchased '07 4runner. Sure enough the wire had been pulled out of the cabin temp sensor. Plugged it in and now AC works well at all reasonable temps, even with outside temps in the 50s here in balmy Colorado in February.

Who knows why or how it was unplugged in the first place...I wish it had been a radio upgrade from the previous owner.
 
Also, pull out the sensor and take a look at it. Mine was gunked up pretty bad and I'm sure it had some effect on its accuracy:

This is good info and the items should be checked even if you're temp control issues. I bet that's my issue as the cabin temp isn't always "correct". Meaning, cooler air is blowing through the vents even though the temp setpoint is set to 75º.

Is the plug for this behind the panel by the driver's knee, or behind the radio?

Apologies for dumb question but all the pics have disappeared from this thread and I wondered if it was a job I could look at this afternoon.

Same issue - only hot or cold, regardless of auto or chosen temperature

On left hand drive 4TH Gen T4Rs the cabin sensor is directly below the ignition switch, there's small slots/holes in the plastic trim for the sensor to get air, the plug would be directly behind there, the sensor could also be dusty/dirty, a little compressed air or a good vacuum wouldn't hurt to clean out any possible dust

Just to say if anyone else has this problem, checking the cabin temperature sensor is really easy.

Two 10mm bolts under the steering wheel, and the whole thing comes away.

Turns out my AC 100V and diff lock switches were unplugged too, and now the heating all works as it should.

I read your solution. I found the cable and plastic hose disconnected. It was really simple to repair and just pop the two parts back in. It solved a 5 year old problem Thanks for the advice!!
