Cali info help

Im going to cali, and I'm staying in woodland hills, I'm spending 3 days around the la/sd area and I'm trying to figure out a redwood park that isn't in NORTH cali. The misses wants to go see some redwoods and I figured we'd spend one day doing that but I don't want to drive 5 hours just to go see some redwoods. I don't mind driving a few hours to like central CA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are out for giant trees, are Sequoias ok? You could go to Sequoia National Park which is sort of lower central Ca. But even from LA that would be probably 3 hours to the trees one way...

Thats a good idea. I didn't even think of sequoias. Im 80% sure we'll adjust our trip to 2 days in la 2 in sonoma just cause its cheaper than SF.

x2 for the sequoia national park, it is absolutely amazing how big those trees are. I remember one of them, "general sherman" i think its called, is the largest living organism on the planet.

So you are leaving LA and will have 2.5 days to roadtrip somewhere?

Day 1. Leave @ 8am
I'd suggest you drive up the Coast Hwy past Santa Barbara and all the way up to Big Sur area. Stay on the coast, its one of the best "drives" in America. Stay in a hotel or camp near Big Sur / Carmel area. Or go a bit further and stay in Santa Cruz, CA.

Day 2.
Drive to San Franscisco (about 1.5 hours away) and visit for the day then after lunch drive to Sonoma. Stay in Sonoma.
Or skip SF and drive to Big Basin State Park. Its a giant Redwood Tree park. Then drive to Sonoma.

Day 3.
Drive home on the I5. You won't see the coast (which you just saw) but you'll skip the traffic.

i cant remember the name of it but there is a great park west of redwood city (30mins south of SF). might be called redwood forest / big basin not sure. if you're in to hiking there is lot of good trails and you can hike up to bear falls if you've got time (its a medium rated hike)
