"Cali Lean/Squat"

I've been seeing this trend pop up. I'm sure a lot of you have seen it/heard of it, but if not, it's basically when the front of the truck/SUV sits higher than the rear.

Example:

I'm curious as to what the point of it is. It seems like it's only to make the truck look good (if you're into that kind of thing). That being said, most aesthetic trends have some sort performance-oriented beginning. The only thing I can think of where "squat" would help would be snow driving, but I really have no idea. Seems like it would be terrible if you're towing. I often see it in combination with weird spacing of the wheels where the front tires stick out more than the rear.

Anybody here know what the deal is?

I believe it came from pre-runner or desert racing trucks. The rear of them is almost always squated down because the rear is set up for mostly droop travel so that when the truck leaves the ground it can use up the uptravel to cushion the landing. The front on the other hand is usually set up so there is a bit more uptravel from static height so it soaks up the bumps as the truck drives into them.

The front tires sticking out more is due to the wider stance given when they install longer control arms to get additional travel. Most of the time, the people that do the extended travel for the FUNCTIONALITY, will also widen the rear to match better using a wider axle...giving the whole truck a wider stance and making it more stable. Those that do the front only for looks, will usually get lazy and not match the rear to the front.

I think.............. :)

It's not that they're lazy, it's just that you're more likely to notice their bad-ass extended control arms if they don't widen the rear to match.

But yeah, it's all for looks.

Haha alright thanks for the info guys. I've never understood the "form over function" mentality.

as a californian, yes we got tons of truck like that, its not called cali lean/ squat, its called "bro lean" because most "bros" in cali live near beaches, and most all drive long travel or wanna be long travel trucks, thus "Bro Lean".
