I made it through with that, and good spotters. I did winch twice though-once to avoid a likely CV break, and once to avoid body damage. A better driver or lower gearing* would probably do better than I.

*By lower gearing I'm thinking of dual cases or the like-I'm running 4.56 on 33s, so I'm not too bad off.

I think in your case, if you didn't have all that camping gear you would have had an easier time. Ground clearance is key on trails like these, having IFS doesn't help with ground clearance issues either. A good lift, solid axles, 33's and no locker would do fine IMO

I'll find out in two weeks how well my new build does on 35s, 4.88s and front/rear locker. Granted I'm not worried about damage, but I'll be trying to avoid it. I also carry 2 extra CV axles now.

Yeah, a lighter vehicle would do better. My rig is quite heavy, as it is always going to be an overlanding vehicle as well (well, unless I win the lottery and get a second fun vehicle). I've got ~500 pounds in armor (front/rear bumper, sliders, skids), and ~500 pounds in camping gear (tent, water, gas, fridge, etc), add ~400 pounds in people (of note, most of those are me-not my wife), the arb drawers in the back full of tools, camping chairs, etc. and you're looking at a minimum of 1500 lbs over stock weight, probably closer to 2000lbs heavier.

Nice. I'm definitely looking at 35's for my next set, but I don't think I'll re-gear from 4.56 to 4.88. Want to go dual cases eventually though, but not likely this year. I only carry a single CV. I'm carrying two as a precaution with the locked front end. Even if I did go with RCV axles, I'd still carry 2 because you just never know. They're the weak link in the front end with a locker as the axle should break before you break the (more expensive) gears.

Looks like mid 80s. Most of the group has bailed so it's down to like 2 of us and I haven't confirmed with the other person yet. May just have to postpone it until fall when it's cooled down. I'd be down to head up the mountain on the 5th if Calico becomes a no go.

Sounds good. I wouldn't mind running Calico again, it's not having a/c for the ride home that sucks. So you down for Dishpan? Or Lower Larga? Dishpan will likely be a real shitshow at the waterfall on 5/5... fun either way! :usa2:

I'm hoping most people decided to stay home and get tanked, hahaha. Lemme check with my buddy, see what he wants to do. I'm personally not comfortable spotting in general, and I'm sure as hell not comfortable spotting him across pucker pass.
