Calico April 7th

Planning to head out to Calico on the 7th and 8th to run some moderate trails(3-5’ ledges/waterfalls and a few rocky sections) I’ll have one other rig with me. If a few people want to cruise let me know.
Trails will likely do body damage to stock trucks so keep that in mind, 4wd required

TTORA is hosting it's annual Calico run the same weekend so I'm sure we'll run into each other at some point.

Yea, some of us don't post up until the day before and some don't at all and they just show up. See you on the trails

Are you still running Calico the 7th n 8th? Where's the rendezvous point?
If not maybe I'll just go run Lower Larga or something...

I changed my mind last second due to to forecast and strong winds. Gusting up to 40 or something, no thanks

Decided to run white mountain and planned to run gold mountain the following day but my motor acted up pretty bad right towards the end of white mountain so I decided against it. So I went down burns canyon and ran heartbreak ridge/Pontiac sluice and motor was still acting up but not as bad

Had 2 newbs with me but they did good, looking forward to running all the good trails in Bear this summer

The winds were awful and I even hit rain on the 15n. I stopped off Rasor Rd for a bit, but it was too windy to get out and enjoy anything.

You ran with the TTORA guys? Pics front the run looked good but I was thinking for camping it would suck big time

No I was driving to vegas on Saturday, did a little off roading in Rasor OHV and some other places on the 15. Coming back Sunday was nice, found a new route to bypass the Cajon pass going off road and avoiding traffic

Got coords for that route around Cajon? I know we were on some dirt from Afton down to Yermo and it looked like it would keep going. Where did you end up at?

Sorry no coordinates, that nav picture is as technical as I get when it comes to route tracking

I can't remember the exit name, but it was the last exit before you start the Cajon pass, I think it may have been Mariposa? I followed the train tracks down to Baldy Mesa OHV and came out there. All the signs off Mariposa say no access to 15 or 138, and they are right a major ravine separates you if you stay on the trails. I followed a side road down the train tracks and did see some other people out there and didn't see any no trespassing signs at night, but we made it thru without any problems or technical sections. We got home 45 minutes after our friends who stuck to the pavement the entire trip home. We spent about 2 1/2 hours on dirt trails running alongside the 15south.

I'll have to scout the maps. Buddy I was with said you can take dirt from yermo to Victorville. Not sure where you popped out at.

The Cajon pass was much further south. Victorville to Yermo is not a hard run, there is Stoddard Wells basically in the middle and enough trails to link it all the way to Vegas.

Yes, considered 2 of the most difficult trails in SoCal excluding the hammers

Hrm. Well then, I will pass on them 3 trails. But I will be out there that day for “enrichment” with the kid. So if you see a tall sexy mutha with a big beard and piercing eyes... say high. I am going to try the Philips canyon on the way home, but the “shelf” has me nervous.

Phillips is really easy, just take your time if your worried.
I’ve seen about 60 rigs go up no problem. Some stock, some first time wheeling

I made it through with that, and good spotters. I did winch twice though-once to avoid a likely CV break, and once to avoid body damage. A better driver or lower gearing* would probably do better than I.

*By lower gearing I'm thinking of dual cases or the like-I'm running 4.56 on 33s, so I'm not too bad off.
