Who has replaced their two Catalytic Converters?
Any advice on the best place to buy? Cost?

I'd like to keep the truck for another 150K miles.

I got mine off of ebay from MAC auto parts. I replaced both cats, the muffler and the rear piping. I haven't driven it much since the install, but so far so good.

I would weld in some universal high flow's. Aftermarket direct fit's are the same universal stuff you buy at Autozone with piping+flanges to make it bolt in. The quality is miles behind OEM anyway.

I can look them up tomorrow but I believe magnaflow makes a own replacement. I would go with a carb approved cat thou if I were you for smog purposes.

Thanks all for your replies.
Turns out it was my muffler.
Wow, what a difference a new muffler makes
Guy who installed the muffler said my cats looked fine and the heat shields are tight.
There are still a couple of rattles I'd like to track down - but isn't there always...

Not trying to hi-jack the thread but I need to replace one of my cats.

I did a few searches and I got the impression if I went with aftermarket, I'll throw a code shortly after as the computer will think there's an issue.

Is this still the case? some of the threads I read were several years old.

Why do you think it is the CAT?

Almost nothing in that thread says "hey it's the cats" maybe one post out of the 10.

1. Have you had your cats tested at a shop?


2. Are you throwing any codes?


I had a serious rattling sound and it turned out to be a leaking exhaust. My truck has 225k miles and my cats aren't "leaking" , I'm sure it's possible yours could be but I wouldn't assume so just because of the mileage.

A real cat is over $1000 each and the replacements work but are often inferior.
