Picking up my very first 4Runner on Tuesday. A mint 2006 Limited V8. Only 148,000km on it. I have owned a 2000 Tundra with the same engine. In that iteration, the gas consumption was beyond horrendous! lol

The previous (and only) owner of the 4R was fanatical with the services. Every conceivable service imaginable was done at a Toyota dealership. Transmission, transfer case, differential, brake fluid flush done every 48,000KM etc...

I live around Ottawa but I bought it in Toronto. I will be flying down Tuesday to pick it up. I would have gotten it this week, but there was a delay getting the timing belt done.

First order of business will be swapping out the head unit. Second order of business will be to pile on as many kilometers on it as I can!

Well... the final negotiations have need been done. I learned of the delay with the timing belt as I was waiting to board the plane last Thursday in Ottawa. I had explained the whole process I had to go through to the dealer (I live 60 KM east of Ottawa, I have to park at the Marriott - (work place parking), then Uber/taxi to the airport 25-30$ one way...). And I had asked him to call me if there was any kind of delay.

Now of course, the lesson is that I should have called from home, but I was super stoked to get my new ride. Coupled with the fact that my wife works with Air Canada and I get amazing deals on flights... So I wasn't too financially committed into the affair... But seriously bummed out when I got the news that I wasn't taking the flight because the 4R was heading to the shop a full 24 hours later than it was originally supposed to. I had to taxi back to the Marriott and drive the 60K back home...mumbling a little bit, but still happy I had called and not gotten the news in person in Toronto, because that would have blown big time...

All that to say that the asking price was 12,899$. At that price they were doing the timing belt. I could have gotten it for 12,200$ and do the belt myself. Had it been summer time, I might just have done that, but I don't have a garage/shop to work in, and I figured any shop was going to charge me over 700$ to do the job anyways. I was promised (after profuse apologies) an instant 100$ off for my troubles of the day, and a promise to open negotiations to 'make things right'...

Black book value on a 2007 (they don't go as far back as 2006) is 17,493$, which is pretty crazy, when you think about it.

Not hard time looking for parts , what I meant was shipping and attaining them sucks as shipping and also LACK of shipping to Toronto ... but you’re right not hard to find.. there’s lots .. currently looking at Doug Thorley headers but looks like I can only find on eBay from US and will have to pay for shipping here ..

Find some place in NF or Buffalo, NY to install them. It'll save you a lot on customs. New tires or wheels installed down there, I would go thru a muddy lot before I cross.

The gas savings is only like $10 on a full tank. The only time I'll go over now is to pick up parts and that's pretty rare these days.

It's like the UPS thing but with different pricing rules. UPS charges $5/week while Kinek charges by weight starting from $5, and they give you 1 month storage, depending on location, because each store has its own pricing.

All depends on what kind of parts your looking for.
There's a plethora of US on line dealers.
Even actual Toyota dealers in the US are cheaper than Canadian ones.
