Calling all V8's....

Its been pretty boring around here for almost a week.

My brother told me to start an 05 v8 thread (or V8 in general). This thread can includ anything and everything. Pros/Cons/gripes, anything that comes to mind. I know we all do a lot of research, but maybe we can share, and exchange info.

You can almost call this a rollcall of some sort.

I have other issues, but for now...

05 V8 Sport will not accomodate a TRD (or equivalent size non Yota) Filter.

I just put the TRD filter in mine, took 10 seconds.

The TRD filter I'm refering to is a OEM replacement, which is a direct replacement for the factory drop-in. I don't think we are talking about the same thing.

Well, I bought the Toyota OEM TRD replacement filter for the V8 and it wouldn't fit without removing the anti-roll bar on the Sport Edition.

I guess others who have ordered the same Toyota OEM TRD replacement filter for the 9015-YZZD3 filter have experienced the same problem.

Perhaps I was given the wrong TRD filter.

I'm sorry PROZAC (Cool Name) we are definitely talking about two different things. :bonk: I'm referring to the AIR filter.

Alright, I'm not starting a V6 vs V8 thing again, but I just have to get a few things off my chest. If money is no object get the V8. I keep reading that the MPG difference is minimal between the V6 and V8. Don't fool yourselves. If you hold on to your 4R for 6,7, 8 or 10 years that 1 or 2 MPG's is going to add up, especially if gas prices keep on going the way they are. The V8 right off the bat is $1500 more out of your pockett. The difference in performance between the V6 and V8 is also minimal, unless, of course, you're towing heavy objects. All right, the V8 has 25 more hp than the V6, not really a big deal, but most of us are driving back and forth to work, groceries, taking kids to school, occasional outing on the weekend. I also believe the handling is better in 2 wheel drive rather than 4 wheel. Not a huge difference, but again, another minimal difference. Definitely get the X-Reas if you are going to make sharp turns at 50 miles per hour part of your everyday driving. But be ready for a more harsh ride. As far as resale, gas prices rise to $3.00 or $4.00 per gallon as many predict in the next few years, selling a V8 may be just a bit difficult. Like I said, I just had to get a few things off my chest here. All of the above is must my humble opinion. I''m an old guy, so be gentle.
 
just an FYI. Assuming 15k a year, $2.50/gal. gas prices and a difference of 2 mpg between the V6 and the V8. Total dollar difference is approximately $290/year.
 
Be Gentle????????? You come on a thread and whine about your perspective, and you want us to be gentle?

I will try.

The V8 gets about the same fuel sucking as the V6, and in some cases, better, yes better, why? Weight transfer, or read torque.

I really lost interest in your quibbling when you mentioned the 2 wheel version handles better. If you ever have driven anything, you know a car with 4 wheel drive handles better overall than just two. Hmm, ever see any Subaru Rally cars kick some serious tail? Wonder why? Two wheel can be fun to drive, in a Vette etc... for some goofing around bang up driving. So dont get me wrong, I am not saying that two wheel drive cannot be fun, I am saying the 4 wheel system will and does feel better in everyday driving, from snow to dry pavement, all 4 are trying to bite and drive, and it flat out feels better.

Gas prices, no matter what, if they goto 4 bucks a gallon we will all be hurting. The American people are not in the situation to stand up and just say no to higher prices. There is no easy fix. So I really do not lose sleep at night knowing I drive a bad SUV with V8 in it. I certainly am not going to trade it in. So I really do not care how much I am going to get on trade, as I am happy with it.

V8 envy is a tough thing.
 
03 V8 LTD 4x4 here
a few tweaks here and there. love my little old mall queen.

mine has got 37k miles now, so it is finally broken in

the only thing i wished the v8 had compared to the v6 i the top oil filter
 
Geeeeezzzz, I knew I would start something here. You're right, I have V8 envy. I was hoping nobody would notice. By the way, where did you get the picture of my wife next to your thread? I just hate when she poses like that.

I calulate the difference closer to $200 per year.

15000miles / 18mpg = 833 gal
15000miles / 20mpg = 750 gal
83 gal difference

83gal X $2.50 = $207.50 difference
