I have a 2007 4runner just reach 10000 mile does it have a cam belt and if it breaks will it cause damage?

[MENTION=114091]mikes951[/MENTION], I am assuming that you are referring to the timing belt, right? OK, a couple of things: 1) is your Runner a V6 or V8? 2) exactly how many miles are on the clock? 3) are you the original owner? 4) why in the hell did you not consult your manual?

I'm the original owner v6 only thing I have done is changed oil and brakes and put new tires on 10000 miles on it.

The 2UZ-FE (4.7L V8) Engines have a "Timing Belt" (which is what I am assuming you are referring to when you say "Cam Belt"), while the 1GR-FE (4.0L V6) engines are equipped with a Timing Chain.

The service interval for the Timing Belt is 9yr/90k according to Toyota and typically it is not a bad idea to replace the water pump when you do it as a preventative measure due to it being buried under the timing cover.

1GR has three timing chains. A main one going around the crank and both intake cam gears and two chains coming off the intake cam gears and connecting to the exhaust cam gears. Motor is interference so broke chains are bad. I'm still on my original chains 315K going strong. On my third serpentine belt.

I think fsm states to rebuild at 250k. I'm just trying to stretch it out till the new Cummins tundra comes out if the chain breaks your motor is doomed although I've seen a interference motor break the belt and survive lol.
