Camping?

This really isn't a 4Runner question but the truck will be taking us to our desitination...

My wife and I have an 8 month old baby boy and her parents are urging us to go camping with them in a couple weeks. They go every year to the beach and camp. Members with young children, please chime in here....


And, since we have one more, our current tent will no longer suffice. Any recommendations on how much room we should get for Jr and all his stuff, if we decide to go....

I had my boy camping at 9 days old. We have a camper with heat and A/C so that makes a big difference. It is actually very easy to camp with young children, no worry about them running off or into traffic.

Bring a pack-n-play for the boy to sleep in and you may have to drive around in the day for his nap since tents get very hot in the day. Also bring his regular blanket and pillow along with a stuffed animal or something so he feels kinda "at home".

When my kids were that age we would bring a big soft blanket to sit on and play and if you have room bring his saucer or bouncy chair. This is also a great thing to get, we actually use it even at home.

Obviously bring the stroller for walks around the campground, and then just the regular crap you need. Diapers, clothes, food and formula or milk. If you need to heat up food or formula a small microwave is ideal but not always feasable. But you should have a plan on what to do if you need to heat up bottles. Also bring infant tylenol and if you have a mosquito net for the stroller don't forget that.

Here is a tent my buddy just bought to come camping with us, their boy is about 18 months old. They liked the tent and kept them dry during the rain. It is tall enought to stand up in and not feel cramped. Plus the price is good.

If you REALLY like camping, check this tent out. It will fit all of your needs and then some. Only con is that its heavy and expensive. My buddy has one and it flat out rocks. You can support yourself on the center pole and stand up straight in it if you're 6'2" or less give or take. It has room for 4 cots or air matresses and ventilates quite well.
