Camry Nav Installer

Does anybody know of a stereo store or person who has installed the Camry Nav in a 2003-04 4runner who I can pay to install mine if I buy the unit from OEMvalue. Somebody who has experience and has done the install before. I am in Orange County, CA. [email protected]. If not, I think I will just go with the Pioneer Avic-N1.

I live in Irvine, and I have installed the Camera/Solara nav in a Sienna, it was pretty straightforward. Not sure how much help I can provide with a 4Runner though. The only tricky part is to know where to tap into the VSS and REV wire of the vehicle, and to properly remove the dash pieces to get to the stock head unit.

Nav Installed

I had a 2004 Toyota Camry NAV installed in my 2003 4runner by Beach AutoSound off Beach BLVD in Huntington Beach. They did a pretty good job, no problems with it so far....
 
How much did it cost to install at Beach Autosound and did they hook up everything including all the sensors and sterring controls? Do you happen to know the number and/or know the name of the person who installed yours?

Don't remember who hooked it up, but they charged me $100.00 to install, this included the amp, but not the speed and brake sensor, as the individual who sold me the unit forgot to send that piece of wiring. They may charge more if the speed and brake sensor are part of the install, but probably not much. I was happy with the job, haven't had any problems.




Forgot to mention, I had the NAV unit, the wiring harness and the amp already.

When you buy the Camry Nav system from OEMvalue does it come with all the necessary parts, harnesses, etc? In other words, can I just give the package that comes from them to the installer and they have everything they need to install including the brake and reverse sensor.
 
Nav Install from OEM Value

It really depends on what unit you have installed now, but it looks like the kits from OEMValue have what you need, you just need to buy the right kit. Also, check Ebay for NAV's.

I had the base stereo, so I needed the NAV, harness, and amp.
 
I have 2004 Sport without JBL... Only have the 6 speaker system... OEMvalue does not supply the amp and harnesses? If not, would I purchase from Toyota?
 
For basic system you will need the Camery nav which comes with a JBL amp (separate box) from oemvalue. It does cost $100 more than Solara nav though because of the additional amp.

What does the VSS, REV, Brake Sensor, Speed sensor and all the other stuff do? As you can see I am a newbie. I want to take everything I need to the installer 1 time so he can install them in 1 day without having to go back and forth. I want him to hook up all the sensors and other things also without having to keep taking apart the dashboard.

All you have to worry about is the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) and REV (reverse sensor). Navigation unit uses VSS and REV to sense movements of your venhicle on the map, with GPS as secondary positioning aid. It is also how the nav unit know when to disable menu options when the vehicle is moving.

VSS and REV signals in your truck is not a plug, but some wires you need to tap into for the nav. There are instructions and pictures posted earlier on this thread.

This is just a follow up. Did you end up getting the Nav installed on your truck? If so, tell me how it went. I'm thinking about doing the same thing.

Several members here (including myself) have already successfully installed the Camry navigation system in our 4Runners.

This place is a great resource for getting help or working thru any problems you might encounter.

I have no plan yet. Seeing that you're in Walnut and I'm in West Covina, we are basically "neighbor". I can come to your place to help you to install yours and you'll come to my place to install mine when the time is ready? You have a garage to work on? Got tools? I do have lots of tools and a soldering station. I probably won't just clip onto the existing wires (speed sensor/reverse sensor etc..) but rather cut it and solder it back together.

Mine is a 2003 but I guess the installation is pretty much alike as yours is a 2005?

I wouldn't cut the original wires because there is really no reason to do that when you can tap them with these:

You can buy a box of them at Radio Shack for about 2 dollars.
 
I used the connector your mentioned before and my experience was that they work for a while after you install it (when the connector is new and tight), then eventually vibration of the vehicle will shake it loose and you will loose connection. That's why I'm thinking of soldering it somehow.
