Camry still produced in Japan or all in USA?

There have been some quality issues with Camrys. Are they all made in the U.S.? Or are certain models still produced in Japan?

I'm looking to get either the Camry or Accord.

6th Gen Camry

At least in 2007 the were being produced in both the US and Japan for sale here (although the majority from the KY plant in the US). I have no reason to assume the 2008 (same gen model) would not be available from both locations.

This is true. My wife has an 2007 Camry V6 XLE built in Kentucky in May 2007 and has had no issues at all with 22000 miles on the odometer.

I will say that the interor plastics are a bit cheaper than past generations, but the same goes for many other brands and models these days.

Our V6 gets great mileage, averaging 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.

Great accaleration and a very comfortable ride, albeit at the expense of dome driving dynamics and fun. My wife would not have it any other way. Now my daughter's Mazda 3s on the otherhand is more "fun" to drive (Although it gets the same gas mileage even with a 4 cylinder engine)

Yes, it really depends. Some of the Japan cars are manufactured in the US too. But not all, those that are best known and liked by the Americans. Those two models are maybe hybrids.

All it takes for a Toyota to be branded either U.S or Japanese built is for 51% of the parts to have been made in that country.

They are both built here in the US. It seems you can get a better deal on a Camry. The Camry does not get rated well in car magazines. If you like quiet, comfortable ride, the Camry is the way to go. I have had a few Accords and I feel they are a better drivers car, considering it is still a family car.

majority of camry's are built in us. there are some still built in japan.
the vin will tell you, if it starts with 4 its good old Kentucky, if its a J its jap.
japan made is said to be built better.

The Camry has been made in both the U.S. and Japan for at least 10 years now (if not more) and it's been proven that U.S.-built Camrys are equal in every way to the Japan-built Camrys. The location of assembly really has nothing at all to do with getting a "good" Camry or a "bad" Camry. The both use the same exact parts from the same exact suppliers as specified by Toyota. And contrary to popular belief, American assembly lines can screw together a car just as good as Japanese assembly line workers.

For the most part, parts are almost nearly identical. For my 2004, US made Camrys have a different bumper than the Japanese made counterpart. The US made one does not have the square pop out underneath the passenger headlight that the Japanese one does for the screw-in tow hook bolt. Also the US made bumper on the models without foglights (CE and LE) there are no provisions to add foglights at a later date, the bumper is moulded without the bracket tabs and holes. The Japanese made bumper has a pop out cover and the OEM foglight can be snapped in.

In general the two are nearly alike, but I will still give the nod to a Japanese made one based on my experience with the previous gen Camry.

Camry and Accords are both good cars. The Camry, and Toyotas, in general are pretty much made to be appliances, they do the job they are designed to do well. But Toyotas have no soul, other than to get you from point A to B without any fanfare. For excitement from A to B, other brands do better.

Japanese and american camry's for the most part use the same parts but not all parts are the same. they are different part# and for the most part are interchangable. we should buy the american (which most of us do) first, but i feel japanese is built better.
