would cams give me a noticable power gain?? 92 4runner sr5 v6 5speed 4wd
Best power gain for the veezee is headers.
Where are you getting cams from?
Huh, they list them in a catalog I have but I cant find them on their web site.

agreed about the headers over the cam... i've heard from many people that the exhaust is so restrictive that cams will only increase heat and burn up your gasket in number 6 cyl faster. i put the o/s valves frome "enginebuilder" in my 3slow and it really helped the midrange and top end but from what i spent on the valves and port job it's not worth it. i spent 1700 getting my heads ported with bigger valves, comp ratio raised, cams reset and engine rebuilt... and along with my cat back exhaust it's maybe putting out 175ish... it's about 1200-1500 for a 3.4 swap and it getts better milage, more reliable, not HG problems, and stock 190hp (with the option of headers and supercharger i've heard upwards of 300hp)... in retrospec i wish i hadda done the swap. if you have a fresh lower end in your engine i'd say headers, then cams and valves (which significantly helps the HG problem) but if you have a worn down lower end.. beat the dead horse till it's dead and then do the swap. granted your heads are good, your lookin at 650 for headers, 350 for the head work, and 400 for the cams(DOE has a baaaaaad rep). if your heads are half as bad as mine were when i pulled them off then expect close to 800 for the head work.. i have a hook up with the shop, and brought them all my parts and it was 700 (WITH A HOOK UP DEAL) sorry to rant but i cant stress enough how much i's better to just save up and do the swap!
the 3vze is a tank motor.. it's bulletproof minus the head gaskets, and even with the tons of issues and broken things on mine, i still managed to chug along and finish the trail i was on and make it home (thats the toyota gene kicking in) so dont think i'm raggin on the 3vze... i just feel performance wise it's a no brainer... 3.4 all the way
