Can I remove the chrome and paint stock grill

Really hate the chrome on my grill and found this grill for sale for $40. Can I stripe the rest of the chrome off of this one and paint it a glossy black? Any other ideas?

Here is my current grill, just not a fan of chrome and figured I could experiment with the $40 grill and if I don't like the results then no biggie.

Search plasti-dip on here. It's probably exactly what you need. No commitment and no damage. You can peel it off and go right back to the original finish.

I have the same issue on my 06 sport. The only thing chrome is the front grille. I am putting on my flat black TRD wheels this week and thought about picking up a flat black grille.

Does the plasti dip have to be a flat black? Do they have a more glossy black by chance? And do you have to remove the chrome coating first? Would the results be more ideal? I have read plenty regarding the plast dip so curious if a flat black is my only options. I would really like a color matched one in the galactic grey and would be stoked to get someone to build me a Satoshi (spelling?) but either way really dont like the chrome that much.

This will get you to a more glossy finish. Amazon.com: Performix 11212 Plasti Dip Enhancer Glossifier Aerosol - 11 oz.: Automotive

The only prep work you will need to do is make sure the surface is clean. No need to scuff, prime or remove the chrome. Apply around 3-4 coats of black plasti-dip. Let cure. Apply 2-3 coats of glossifier and you're done. Make sure anything you tape off gets pulled off immediately after the last coat.

If you can find color match paint, you can paint over plasti-dip, but it will not peel off quite as easy if/when you get ready to remove it.

BTW, if any of you guys aren't willing to tackle this and want to get rid of your current grill, I may be in the market for one.

I tried painting my chrome grill twice. I sanding it, prepped it and even applied etching primer. And it paled within a week or two. Finally replaced with a black plastic abs limited grill.

Anyone have pictures of how to remove the grill? I hear the hood latch need to be disassembled?

I recently ordered an OEM LIMITED (about $190) grill and was really suprised when it showed up complete...I thought it would just be the outer rim...but the paint is really thin, probably wont be too long until I have a repeat of the same problem.

You can order grills pre-painted and pick any stock color you like

Not really...first, remove 8 x 10mm bolts that hold the grill on. Then pull it off and turn it so the latch rod slips out of the latch part that's bolted to the grill. Reverse the process to reinstall. It's very easy.

I just took that fake chrome off my my 3rd gen grill.
It was a complete pain in the ass, but some good me time!
I used WD40, degreaser diluted and non diluted, all of that did NOTHING!! basically, I had a small knife and a big knife and I found a starting point and then just peeled it all off...not even heat worked...but, it's all off now. I sanded it with 8p grit, sprayed primer that is now drying, tomorrow I will prime again then sand with 180 grit, and apply satin black paint.
