Can people please share their thought on the OME lift?

My dad is not letting me get a lift. All i need is the OME 2.5' kit.


The reasons he won't let me buy one:

1:Ride quality-"not as good"
2"Handling-"twitchy"
3-Accident Avoidance-"will tip in regualar circumstances"(18 year police officer, month long trafiic accident investigation schools made him this way)

Hmmm... IMO, 1 and 2 sounds more like the stock suspension... LOL... that thing is horrible...

I don't have OME so I can't really help out there... But I had cornfed spacers up front and downey rear coils and I thought it made it not as twitchy and not as floaty feeling...

My Gf's 2004 Tundra Double Cab has a 3" Toytec lift and it made the truck handle alot better. i corner it and take off ramp 10 to 20 mpg faster. it did make the front end stiffer intsead of that loose feeling you get while turning. That's the reason why my Gf let me lift the 4runner too. She is also paying for i should say, if anyone is wondering why i have to run it by her. HaHaHa:biggrin2:

I have the ome "heavy duty" lift. 881 springs front and 890 springs rear.
This suspension outfit drastically improved the ride quality. The lift did not cause the truck to have excess body roll or "lean" during cornering. In fact, the stiffer springs made the body roll less. Handling is exactly the same if not slightly better because of the less body roll. And accident avoidance, well it is an suv, even without this lift it's dangerous if you don't know how to take evasive maneuvers. Sounds like pop is old fashioned.

I have driven the Discovery, Defender, Pathfinder, Patrol, Hilux, Prado, Landcruiser, Pajero, 4Runner, Rodeo, Navara (yes, some of these are australian models) all with OME suspension and in all cases it has made a very noticable improvement in ride and handling and also in offroad ability. Most aftermarket suspension systems improve the vehicle, thats why it is such a huge industry and in demand. OME is also good in the fact that their systems are designed within vehicle design rules and regulations and dont not require any modifications (ie, welding or cutting) during install.
Original Equipment (I wish OEM and OME werent so similar!) is always a comprimise and designed around a tighter budget. OE suits most people but those of us who take more of an interest in our vehicles prefer something better.
