Can't decide which tire will work.

Ok so i've looked at every page of every build thread and lift/tire thread and still can't decide on the right tire combo. I am installing the toytec 3" lift on sunday with the bilstein 5100 shocks all around. I will be running the factory 16" wheels for now.

What i really want is the Toyo open country MT in 255/85/16 which measures to 33.5 x 10.2 and i'm worried it won't fit without alot of rubbing and cutting, which i'm ok with doing a little light trim if needed.

The alternative is the procomp xtreme mt2 in 285/75/16 which measures to 32.9 x 10.8, which might be a good alternative to running the taller tire.

Can anyone offer up any insight on which size should fit best before i order tires that won't work.

You'll have an easier time fitting the 255 than the 285. Personally, I like the "pizza cutter" look and I find the overall performance is better with a skinny tire. The Toyo MT is a really good tire that is a true 33" and then some. The only downside is the weight but it is a strong tire with thick sidewalls.

I run the Cooper ST Maxx in a 255 with about 2.5" of lift and I did have to trim the front bumper a little, push the wheel well liner forward and re-drill the holes for it, and I heated the front of the wheel liner up and reshaped it some for additional clearance. I did not have to trim or do anything to the body mount or rear section of the front fender well. If you bottom out the front suspension hard you will contact the top of the front fender well some. I think I noted some of this down in my 4th gen build thread.

Gen 4 came with both 16/17. It all depended on if the model had the larger brake calibers.

This, a skinnier tire will be easier to fit. Skinnier will also yield slightly higher MPG and handling. I would've gone with 255/80/17 if it had been offered in the tire I wanted.

You may rub on the UCAs with a 285 if still running stock wheels and no spacer

Most helpful thing for fitting larger tires is your alignment. Wheel needs to be moved away from cab. (postitive caster) Be aware that your cams may be frozen and getting the ideal alignment to reduce rubbing might need new cams or LCAs
