Can't fix this darn Elocker!!! AHHHH

I miss my elocker so much, it's been down for months. My trouble shooting is getting me nowhere.

When I press the button all I get is a blinking light. The only clicking is from a relay somewhere under the hood near the ABS crap. No elocker motor noise. No power at the locker. As far as I can tell from the crappy diagrams I have, power goes through both 4wd ECUs located at the drivers kick panel, green and black boxes. I've already swapped them both with spares (which I'm not sure are good) there is power going into the appropriate pins but nothing coming out of the black ECU. Circuit board looks intact with no burns. I have the wire mod so that I don't have to be in 4lo or be going under 5mph. Basically shorts the blue/red wire and green/orange to ground. They are still getting good ground and been functioning for over a year.

Yesterday when I was messing with it again I got a couple clicks from relays in the black ECU when I tapped the RR lock button quickly. Already changed the button out. Tried to replicate it but those couple click were all I got.

No power coming out of 4WD control ECU to locker motor through the light green and LG/red wires.

Can't tell what the hell I'm supposed to have power-wise from the FSM.

Seems like a bad ECU. I need to get my buddy over here and borrow parts off his till mine works! That's how the AF rolls, box swapping 101:boink:

why more people don't look in the factory service manual :lmao:

and trust me there is plenty i don't know, i learn new things almost every day.

Well I only have the Factory Owners manual and the information you linked is not in it. I do not have a "Service Manual"

:P

Toyota Tacoma/ 4Runner/ Tundra/ FJ Cruiser Factory Service Manual Page

Book mark that. They were nice enough to provide most of the trucks for you. If the sight goes down or you are working on something that isn't listed

https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInf...abel=ti_home_page&SMENC=ISO-8859-1&SMLOCALE=U

That one will cost you a few bucks to look at but has everything you could need for a Toyota product. There are probably other free places, but sometimes its easier to pay for access and download what you need that spend too long searching for free info.

Im having a similar problem with mine. Relay click but no engaging of the motor. I pulled the locker apart and it looks as clean as if I were to pull it out of a box at the dealer parts counter.

I can jump it manually using jumpers on the locker plug at the axle, but only get a blinking dash light when I presh the button.

Were you ever able to figure out what it was Jon?

I have been denied too many spots that, with the E-locker, I would have walked through....

Fixed!

I was able to fix mine a couple weeks ago. I was just doing some more quick trouble shooting and decided to see if it would actuate with direct power from a battery. Used my kids Barbie Jeep batt and it worked both directions. Reconnected the wires and boom it was magically fixed!

My guess is a loose connection.

I suggest ripping all the connections apart and reconnecting. Have you shot for power/ground?

Just out of curiosity, which pins did you connect the power and ground to?

I need to index a used motor I picked up

I haven't had a chance to get that far yet. Hopefully i can check all the connection out soon. Is there a fuse somewhere that i can check? I haven't been about to locate one.

i feel like the better solution for this common problem is to eliminate wiring through the ecu. my 4runner started as a 2wd so i had to wire my elocker without it. makes it easier to trouble shoot in my opinion, just a switch pretty much all the way to the elocker

I retrofitted my wiring as well. No ECU, just a DPDT switch. I had some problems with mine a while back. Light was coming on but wasn't engaging. You could hear the elocker motor running as well but not locking in. Took it apart and noticed a bit of moisture and debris collecting inside. My guess was it was just locked up or off track. Cleaned it up and it works great now. You have to maintenance these things every now and then. Almost anytime I'm flushing or adding rear diff fluid I check the elocker as well.

With retrofitting the wiring to eliminate the factory ECU, what components would I need to do it? I see that inchworm sells a kit but for $75 there has to be a cheaper way. Seems the kit includes everything that the factory setup already has just about.

Anyone have a wiring diagram on how to bypass the factory ECU?

What size resistor and fuse will I need?

4runners.org has a good write up. check it out. my setup is similar. eventually though, i plan to use a cable setup and just eliminate the electronics all together.
