Can't get my Homelink to work

My garage door will not program into the homelink. I will welcome any thoughts, tips, ideas or anything to help.

I had difficulties at first programming mine. If you have the owners manual for your garage door opener, that will help. A lot of openers are designed so they have to sink up with the transmitter so that no one passing by can obtain the signal and store it when you use your garage door. If you don't have the owners manual for your opener, Google the brand and model and you should be able to view it online.

Yeah I have the owner's manual. I've followed the directions and i'm still having trouble. Don't know why, I programmed my other 2 4Runners no problem at all.

I will succeed or die trying.

You might want to try the steps in a different order. I remember that it wasn't as easy as the 4R and opener manuals made it out to be, and I probably wouldn't know how to program it again if I had to. Keep try'n, it should work out for you.

I'm just going to cite the owner's manual, but for some reason people actually find my citation a lot easier to understand than the manual..


"Ok. Delete the codes in the homelink then try this. (To delete, hold down the first and third buttons at the same time, hold for about 30-60 seconds till the light blinks really fast. Release and check if deleted if the light blinks at a slow but steady pace. That means there's nothing stored on that button)

Hold down the garage door button and the homelink button u want programmed. Once the light changes from a slow blinking light to a rapid blinking light, release both buttons. Then go to the garage door openner and (this is different for all garage door openners) push the "learn" button ONCE. Within 30 secs, press the same button u programmed 3 times, and it should work."

Beautiful!! It worked perfectly. My problem was that the manual is not very clear, and I was doing one or the other, but not both at the same time. First I tried holding the garage door opener and the homelink button until I got the rapid flash. That didn't work. Then later I tried the learn button and pressing the homelink. That didn't work. But AHA - do the two in conjunction with each other and magic.

No problem! I guess that's what confuses people in programming it. hehe. At first I was really confused at how the manual explains it, but once I figured it out, I typed those instructions out as I was figuring it out in my head how I would do it lol...
