cargo area measurements

Okay I searched, I can't find it. I want to fit 2 dog cages side by side in either a 5th or 4th gen 4runner. Who can tell me the width and height? I think the 4th generation is like 40in wide, which won't work to put them in that way. The cages (narrowest ones sold) are 21in wide. So I'd need 42in+. Is the 5th generation wider in the cargo area? If so, how much more.

2 dog crates/kennels should fit

The width between the wheel wells on the 2010 4Runner is 44". Inside clearance between cargo floor and rear lift gate opening will depend on whether or not the 4Runner is equipped with the sliding cargo tray. I have the sliding cargo tray and the vertical clearance is 32-1/2". After you get past the lift gate opening the vertical clearance between cargo tray and headliner increases to 36". I can't vouch for the vertical measurements without the sliding cargo tray.

Wow

That's an extra 4 inches! Drat - now my decision becomes harder! Do I want a 2010 that has more space or a higher model 4th gen that doesn't... hmm. I need to read more about the rest of the car. But wow, yeah they would fit really nice!
