Thanks. As noted, if someone has a better solution, I'm all for it. From what I've seen, no one sells a shelf for the 5th gen.

You are absolutely correct. There is not a minimum amount of money anyone has to spend on anything. If this setup works for the OP, good for him and more power to him.

You may not know it, but I posted my cargo solution a week or so ago and it was all DIY and done for super cheap because I am too cheap to spend the $1k+ the vendors get for their drawer setups.

That said, whenever anyone posts anything on the internet to show off what they did, some people are not going to like it and will comment. This is life. If you are going to post something and get offended by negative comments, you should stay off the internet.

I will note that the OP did NOT seem to get offended by my post, and no offense was ever intended... I did not post anything inflammatory or insulting towards this setup. I am not a fan personally of the choice to use this shelf solution for cargo management for the reasons already posted. I will just leave it at that because ultimately who cares what I think about his truck? He has to drive it so whatever works for him personally.

The shelf is rated for 800lbs according to McMaster-Carr. Of course, I have no plans to get anywhere near that. This weekend it held 2 bookbags, a blanket and a pillow while the bottom was filled with 3 people's luggage for the weekend. The things is actually way overrated for anything that will go back there. I'm more concerned about the legs punching holes through the plastic they sit on than the shelf collapsing.

Stationary, vertical 1G acceleration loading is radically different from lateral loads, vibrations and vehicle impacts involving 10-20 Gs. It wouldn't surprise me if the flat rack weight alone is enough to fold those legs like bread sticks in an accident and the factory d rings in the back definitely won't stop it, the ones in the Tundra are built twice as heavy and are only rated for 100lbs, I'd be surprised if the ones in the 4runner were rated for 50. The reason no commercial product is made similar to this is the loading during crashes is vastly different than the load a shelf sees sitting in a garage.

I like the thinking but seriously consider going to aluminum extrusions bolted together with diagonal bracing, T-slot systems have even more adjustability and options than the system you grabbed.
