Cargo cover and 3rd row seats?

I went to the dealer today to get a price on retractable cargo cover for an upcoming trip I have, and the parts guy looked it up on the computer and then asked me if I had 3rd row seating. I told him yes, and he said that there was a note on the cargo cover that said it wouldn't work with 3rd row seating, but he said he had never heard that before and didn't know why. We walked out to my 4R to check and sure enough it has all the necessary mounting points for the cover and the only thing I can see that might block the cargo cover is the 3rd row seatbelts. He said to wait on buying it because he wanted me make sure he wasn't selling me something that wasn't going to work, and to try calling back later this afternoon or Monday morning, because he was going to call Toyota and ask the specifics of why it wouldn't work.


Anybody on here know why it wont work?

They work just like all the other models unless you put the 3rd row seats up pf course! lol my 2 cents is skip the cover. It is a hunk o crap and doesnt even cover the entire cargo area... sold mine the 1st week
 
I have cargo cover in my 2013 SR5 w/ 3rd row seat. It fits but keeps catching on the seatbelts. Also, it does not cover the entire cargo area - there are gaps near the rear window and just behind the 2nd row seats. For the price (~$180 incl. tax), it's disappointing.

I bought my cover from a member here for a great price. Works well and use it quite often. It doesn't cover every little nook and cranny, but does cover most all that I am hiding. Oh, I do have 3rd row seating, but use it hardly ever.

I believe the gap behind the 2nd row is to account for reclining those seats.
 
After i had finished negotiating my price on my runner i was about to sign the paper work and i stopped and said. "throw in a cargo cover and will call it a deal". Thats how i ended up with mine which I use pretty often. Like others have said it doest go all the way to the back seats (so they can recline still). and it doesn't go all the way to the tailgate because i think the car narrows as you approach the tailgate. But the gaps it leaves aren't really big enough for someone to see what you have in there. I cant say if i would have paid $170 for it or just do what i do with my Tahoe and throw an old moving blanket over my cargo in the Tahoe(expensive bikes mostly). The moving blanket looks pretty ratty so no one even looks twice back there.

+1 on the moving blanket. You can get a fairly large quilted one from HF for about $7. I try to keep one back there any way, but especially when we have the dogs with us. It gives them little traction and keeps the plastic scuffs to a minimum.
 
Cargo Cover Standard or an Option on a 2016 Limited?

Does the 2016 4Runner Limited 4WD come standard with a retractable cargo cover for the rear area (or is it an option)?

I have a rear cargo cover that I would be willing to sell for $50 + shipping if anyone is interested.

Yea they are pretty useless. I had one in my 4th GEN and loved it. I have the 3rd row in my 5th GEN. That was the first thing I bought. Put it on and found that there was not much that it covered and took up alot of room and getting caught on the seatbelts everytime I pulled it open. Ended up selling it and went the tint route.
 
I loved mine, but the fridge wouldn't fit under it. Covering your cargo is a requirement for urban living, but a black sheet with holes punched for the headrests is an easy solution. I even ran paracord from the hooks on the rear to the seat latch to drape the sheet over on the sides so it mostly stays in place when I pull out the cargo tray

Have you tried putting the buckles in their slots to avoid this issue. My cargo cover never snags on my 3rd row seat belts as long as they are properly stowed
