Looks great! I'm getting closer to getting started. All parts are ordered and should be showing up over the next few weeks. I've been trying to figure out how to make my drawers slide in and out with minimal time required. On my way home from work today it hit me. I'll still use 2 turnbuckles per drawer on the forward tie downs behind the rear seat to eliminate rearward movement and keep it locked until I want to remove them.

I'm not really understanding how the drawer drops in then slides forward to lock. If we are looking at the underside of the base and the base is attached to the metal floor, not sure if there will be enough room for the flat piece to slide forward and lock in.
It's hard to see on the 2D .gif, but the wood is inlet so the metal bracketry is inset and flush. A little router work, no big deal.

Thanks man. I just ordered my Easy Slide, can't wait for it to get here. All I've got left to order is my slides, just keep playing with different lengths trying to maximize everything. I guess I'm not in a hurry since I won't be working on this until it warms up a little bit.
My easy slide came in today, this thing is crazy well built and WAY heavier than I anticipated, 40kg (~88lbs). I'm reconsidering using 1/2 ply for the main casings, I may use 3/4". I can't imagine this thing coming loose during a wreck.

Do you think they would be beneficial? They are adjustable and independent of one another which I think will be a benefit on uneven terrain.

Wouldn't the legs be just as easily stored separate and screw in, or attach to the bottom? That way, you could keep your 2" of drawer, and use as needed.... (i.e heavy cooking pot of soup or something). Just kinda thinking best of both worlds..
I've considered that. I guess my 2" estimate wasn't fully accurate. If I make the legs out of 1" extrusions then I only need to add .5" of clearance to the .5" required for the slides so I should lose 1" and it's nice to have it all built in.
I'll probably use a spring loaded plunger with 1/2" spaced holes to allow the legs to extend and then a screw foot for fine adjustment.

Are your slide lock disks something commercially available, or is that something you came up with? Those are slick, and might work for my imagined modular storage ideas. I envision a deck like yours, and various items mounted on it. I could have my cooler strapped to a board and just slide it in and pin it in place, and add the male portion to the bottom of my Plano boxes and simply swap in the kayaking box, camping box, etc. Cool idea!
Wouldn't the legs provide more support and stability pivoting from the other end of the stove drawer? Since they are stored beside the utensil drawer, this shouldn't take any more room (well, except for the width of the pivot bracket.)

Yea, I came up with it and it's very simple. I'll post a detailed CAD drawing of it soon, everything is off the shelf from ACE Hardware.
Also I don't disagree about the legs but I have them there for 2 reasons.
1. I can put a bolt from the outside of the middle section, through the leg and into the rear vertical support sandwiching the legs between two pieces of wood for additional stability. In the front it won't work because the drawer has to slide in and out.
2. The legs are actually held in place by small tabs on the side of the drawer, I think it'll just be extensions cut into the bottom piece of plywood. When you open the utensil drawer it automatically releases the legs. I'll likely install some strong neodymium magnets to hold the legs up until I want them down, but the drawer will lock them in place.
I'll certainly keep thinking about it and if I can find a better solution I'll go that route. I'm currently trying to figure out how to incorporate a sink sprayer, but tucking the hose into the inside of the box becomes tricky since it's pretty dense.

Cool! Thanks for explaining your rational.
And the design continues. I found a better way to provide a prep surface above the utensil drawer. When closed it provides a flat surface above the stove, when open it provides a counter height surface above the utensil drawer while still allowing you to reach in and grab utensils without having to clear the prep surface.
I've also decided to make it one piece, while still maintaining my quick detach system, I don't see the point of being able to remove each side independently and I just lose lateral space due to the additional uprights required to make 2 separate casings.
I'm getting really close to being happy with this design.

Couldn't sleep, got to thinking about making an extra horizontal surface that was just a piece of 1/4-1/2" ply that laid across the extra drawer. This gives you an L shaped kitchen and doesn't really take up much space. If I use 1/4" birch I can actually just lay it ontop of the sink section when I close the kitchen, so it stores out of the way.
Had to get up and see how it looks. Also decided I'm probably going to leave the kitchen surfaces raw wood and just treat them with oil or something food friendly and easy to fix/repair when they get beat up.

Yesterday was beautiful so I decided to go ahead and start building the outer casing out of 1/2" baltic birch. I'm not ready to move forward with the build yet, I'm going to keep the casing in the back for a few weeks to make sure I don't miss the space. As of right now its minimally screwed together with no glue incase I want to make adjustments. Anyway thought I would share my progress.
Not sure Addie likes it, a little tall for her. Im still trying to decide if I want to make it narrower by about 3" overall so it'll sit down on the inside of the trim, for now I have to have a lower 3/4" ply piece to raise it above the lip on the trim.
I just sold my Smitty ARCTIC fridge, I need to buy a ARB 47L. If it'll fit the way it is, I won't try and lower it, but I think it'll be close. Anyone in Kansas City have an ARB fridge I can slip into the drop slide for a few minutes?
Casing is 36.5x44x12.25" without including the 3/4" spacers.

Awesome can't wait to see the outcome. I'm about to get started on a rear storage system as well and really considering removing the rear slide deck like you did the more and more I try to incorporate it the more and more I realize that may be too big of a pain. Mine will also have to accommodate me sleeping on top of it. Thanks for the inspiration and I can't wait to see more.
