Cargo Liner (full deck)

I just picked up my 2nd 4Runner, a 2008 V6 Limited replacing a 2000 V6 SR5.

One of the issues I've never liked about the '00 and now the '08 is the cargo. Most of the time, the vehicle is configured with the rear seats up and a liner in the cargo area isn't much of a concern since the items going in there are relative clean.

However, when I drop the seats for carrying lots of stuff, that's the time I want a liner, but I want to cover the entire deck, not just the specific cargo area.

A couple of examples;
1) Shrubbery or small trees -- spilled soil
2) Wet scuba gear

I also don't like the Husky, WeatherTech, etc cargo liners since they all have a high defined lips. I'm tempted to buy heavy mil pond liner, and take a razor to it.

Any other ideas?

It's a shame Falls didn't post pics. I think that setup is more along the lines of what I was thinking. I am most concerned about the dirt and water. I think the bed liner idea might work.

Here's a at canvas liner from autoanything.com.

A padded liner, good for pets.

A full cavas liner, only down side is it's expensive and the sides come up a little too high to the cargo window sill so it might look tacky from far away--not an issue if you have tint.

Personally of the three, I like the full canvas liner. It gives you full protection of the cargo area and back seat, also above and below the shelf if your 4Runner has the double decker. This works better than throwing in a sheet of plywood idea (though a lot more expensive), but the cargo area is always protected. You can't get caught off guard with the cargo area unprotected (like coming across a uber deal for a plasma or an impluse buy for any item that requires folding down the seat on a moment's notice).

Uneek, those are nice solutions but too pricey for my budget. Since 99% of the time the seats will be up and I won't be using a liner, I think I'm going down the DIY path.

If I can find a 6x5 tarp, I can put some additional eyelets around the edge. Then thread some rope through eyelets. Draw up some of the rope and this would form a shallow pool when carrying wet gear.

what I use alot is a moving blanket. It covers all the way to the back of the front seats and up the sides alittle. Its also about a 1/4 inch thick. Its strong enough to pull items out the back(if not super heavy).

I like the idea, but wet dive gear would soak a moving blanket (and reek).
