Cargo Net Retrofit?

Hey guys,
I was in my friends mini cooper the other day, and saw this little addition mini had included. on the side of the center console/kick panels they had put clips and attacked a small section of cargo netting so you can store phones, cables, etc. Any ideas on how one would go about adding this to a third gen? Maybe cut slits in the carpeting and mount hooks behind it?

I've tried, there's not really enough space for it to be useful.
