Cargo Tray

I'd like to get a cargo tray for my '01 SR5.

One issue - I have a factory installed 6-disc changer back in the cargo area. How should I handle this? I assume I have 2 options. One would be to carve out a notch to allow for the changer (which is mounted on the right side right next to the extra storage compartment). OR I could somehow remove the changer, drill some holes in the cargo tray to allow for the wiring and re-mounting of the changer - therefore appearance of the tray would mostly be intact compared to first option.

The first option seems easiest, especially since I'm probably not inclined enough for option 2. But option 2 seems to be "the right way".

2nd issue - I'm looking at Husky brand. Performance Products for $70 - free shipping. Any other brands people prefer? Lastly, I have grey interior. Should I do a grey colored tray? Black works too. What do most people prefer?

What are you going to be using the tray for? If it's for tools, and other little doo-dad's, I'd opt for some kind of a container. I asked almost the same question on yotatech, and they've got some good ideas there.

The main reason why I'd opt for a container is, because if you happen to get in an accident, you don't want things flying around everywhere. Really scary.

mostly camping, coolers, firewood, etc.. not really tools, though I'm sure I'll haul the occasional table saw, chop saw, etc..

but mostly I'm thinking wet camping stuff and keeping the carpet clean.

I got my cargo liner (some say cargo tray) through the dealer at a discounted price. Have had one in every 4Runner I have ever owned. Love them. I have grey int and the oem one was only offered in black...but it matches my oem black rubber floor mats too

Thanks again Rock! Well I think I'll get the gray cargo liner (per Darren's pix). It looks good to me.

As for the floor liners, I definitely like the OEM's, I was hoping for gray, but I have time to make that decision. We wont be getting snow for a number of months yet.

btw - my rig looks a lot like yours. I have an '01, same color, hood scoop, mostly stock though... yours looks great man.

I'm more partial to the black mats and liner, but the gray looks good too though.

As far as going with the OEM rubber floor mats, your only choice is black. Toyota did not start offering these mats in gray or tan until '03 when the 4th Gen 4Runner came out. (I don't think the '03 mats fit our 3rd Gens either. That's one reason I went with the black.) So if you want gray mats to match your liner, you'll have to go w/ Husky or something similar.

Are there any issues with the stuff sliding around on the cargomats? I have a cheap cloth/rubber one that is universal and fits exactly between the wheel humps. My dad has a Rodeo with the rubber liner in the back and everything just slides back and forth.

Since I don't care too much about the appearance of the cargo area, I really went trashy and just cut a piece of thick carpet to use as a cargo mat (didn't want the OEM mat to get trashed). Nothing slides around back there, and it was worth the price....free.

I can't speak for other mats, but the OEM mat is pretty good at keeping stuff in place. Just depends on how heavy the item you're setting on top of it is. For example, my frisbee slides from side to side every now and then. However, my 4 ratchet straps, that are just laying back there, don't move at all.

I also keep my mat clean by pulling it out and washing it when I wash my truck at my local car wash center. After the liner's clean, if you run your hand over it, you'll feel it's quite resistant. (More of a rubber surface than a plastic one.) However, after I washed it this last time and put it back into the 4Runner, I made the mistake of wiping it down w/ a rubber/vinyl protectant (similar to amorall) and now it's very slippery . I've made this mistake before, but oh well. Stuff happens.
