Cargo Width

Okay I measured a 2008 Urban Runner yesterday and the width from wheel well to wheel well is 40 inches. A salesman just told me a 2007 is 44in. I'd really like to not waste my time driving to see the car if he's incompetent. Can anyone tell me if the cargo width varies by model/year/etc?

I need at least 42in wide to fit dog crates in. I'd like bigger.

i have a hair under 42 in. what crates u use? i have sheps & the one i use is a canine camper 44L x 32W & i have to fold the rear seat down. u have to also think about how high it is so as not to hit the top of the door opening when sliding it in.

My '06 is just about 42" across. You could probably squeeze in 42" if you didn't mind some rubbing on the wheel wells.

If you want bigger, might need to look at the Sequioa.

Gah, so the guy I called didn't speak english who said he found 44in online for the 2008. I want to put 2 crates 21in each side by side. I could turn them 90 degrees and put the seats down, but that is a really wasteful... I'd like to put them so I can load from the back. We have two large dogs. I think 42in would be really tight if the cages are 21in each. I'd really like to have a little more give. I know the 5th gen is wider, but more than I want to spend I think.

ok, i just measured the 4r, its only 41 at the bottom so 2 cages that wide wont fit side x side, the top to bottom is about 34 at the sides. my 08 highlander is 42 & 1/2 between & 32 top to bottom, so ur crates may fit, & with AWD you would be surprised what/where u can go & do with it.
