Carpet is toast, replace it or Herculine the floors too?

So the carpet is ripped out along with seats and center console. The rear cargo area is already Herculined, now it's just between $200 replacement carpet or $90 gal of Herculiner. To take care of the wires I'll just duct tape over them all and liner on top, never even know that they're there. I have no intention of ever selling. I'm leaning toward the liner, just want some opinions.

I'd go for it, but what if you need to do some electrical work? Wouldn't it be a pain to dig the wires back up and then replace again?

Other than that, I think it'd look awesome. I was talking about this idea to my boss a couple of weeks ago, and how I'd like a cage to seperate everything from behind the seats back...but that plan back fired incase I need to haul something longer than the back part requires. Would have to fab up a half cage or something I guess.

Anyways, I say go for it if you're not worried about the wiring. Plus it will give me an idea on what to go by. LOL!

Go for it. I would try to think of some way to keep the wires above the liner in case you need to work on them. Maybe keep them above the liner and put a plastic cover over them or something. It will make the 4runner louder, but that doen't seem to be an issue.

I would definetly do it! Herculine is the way to go. When I bought my 4runner a few years ago the previous owner had ripped all the carpet up and used that cheap dupli-color crap from autozone to put on the floors, it looked horrible and was noisey as hell. I replaced it with carpet and now I wished I had of gone with Herculine.

Thought about future electrical work. That's what the tape is for. If I deed to do electrical work I'll be able to simply cut a slit down and roll the tape over. The Herculiner is a good solid coating but if you have it on something pliable it will bend with it easily. Found this when I was able to bend the paint roller tray plastic insert. I don't foresee any issues like that. If it comes to shooting wires then cutting through liner will be the least of my concerns!

Not concerned with noise either. I've got plenty of watts to drown out road noise!:boxer:

I wouldn't do it personally because I like the carpet, and I just got some weathertech mats.

You should hit the hurculiner with some flat black paint afterwords so its not so glossy :thumb3:

how's the noise and how did you handle the back of the rear seat?

I have been thinking about this for about a year myself. I looked on a few forums to see if someone else had done it and I only found one guy in Georgia. After he did it he said that it seemed to raise the interior temperature quite a bit. I can't find the post now, so my comment is less than useful, but I thought I'd throw it out anyway. The other thing that is stopping me is the way the back of the rear seats continues on into the cargo area floor mat. How did you handle that? Did you cut it off or find some other way to tidy it up? How is the noise? Do you notice much of a difference?

I cut the rear carpet off the seat. Don't know about noise yet I'm still drying he seats

I cut my carpet off with about an inch left over. Also I have seen another guy on here who had done the backs of his seats too so when it laid down it was all done. Here is the link for my thread it shows pictures of the backs of the seats done. The noise isn't really bad but it is louder.

Still drying the seat cushions. But even before reading the last post and nice link I decided to paint the rear seat backs black to finish out the cargo area. They are just carpet covered pieces of cardboard so Herculining them wouldn't be a bad or hard step. I might go through with it. Just have to go but a new roller. Good news is the rear seat bottoms are good to go and installed, 1/4 of the way dry now!

PS.. don't get ur $hit stuck in the Ocean at low tide or period! Just don't do it!

you should do the liner on all the interior floors, the door and roof skins, then reinstall all the carpet, panels and liners and have an ultra quiet ride. Kind of like a Benz or a Caddy.
