Case of frozen/sezied calipers???

While I was painting my wheels today I decided to inspect my brakes
and noticed this (other than rust...):
Passenger side

I don't feel anything weird when breaking, no pull to either side. But this doesn't look normal.

Looks like they need a little TLC and inspecting. The outer pad looks thinner, but it could be the pic or rust buildup making it look that way. The sliding pins could prob use a touch of lube too.

Hard to tell if the calipers are frozen until you push the pistons back in to install new pads.
I just replaced both front calipers. At first I thought they were fine as I kept my slide pins greased and there was no resistance when free spinning the wheels. Turns out drivers side had 1 piston froze and passenger side had 2 pistons froze.

Had my tires rotated over the weekend. And while the drivers side front was up in the air you could barely turn the wheel. The guy doing the rotation showed it to me. So I replaced the caliper later that day. That's the 7th front caliper I've replaced on this vehicle.

2 years old, no problems and no rust, they must have some sort of coating on them. the big bonus is the lifetime warranty

I don't buy from Advance Auto or PepBoys...or ADAP...I find the quality of MOST of their parts to be marginal. Brakes are too important to buy from a place like Advance.

Its official, bot front calipers seized. Took it to a Toyota dealer for a break check.
This is how much they want:
Both front calipers and pads (plus resurface rotors) $780

They also recommended a 4x4 service (fluids) for $240

To make things worst, none its included by my powertrain warranty.

I got my set of front calipers at cbhaus.com free shipping quality looks pretty good so far. $72 per caliper and no need for core return

For $800, you should be getting new front rotors, not having them resurfaced.

Got a quote from the purchasing dealer in PA, they wanted $700 for same service.

Called Napa from work today and they quoted me this:

Remaf. Calipers (with an exclusive Protective Coating) : $83.81 ea. Lifetime Warranty!!!!

New ultra premium rotors $83.95 ea.

Premium brake pads: $56.69

Total: $392.48 more or less.

Lifetime warranty on the calipers is a plus.

I too just replaced the front calipers with Napa and their upgrade pads and have about 2K miles on them, no issues of course being so new. The last 2 sets of calipers I've had all have been from "Toyota" and they have been CRAP! I noticed on the Napa's they come pre-painted black and they have dust boot snap rings around the rubber boots to help keep water out. The Toyotas did not and THEY do not have the life time warranty. So....lets see how many miles I get outta them!
